Job Description

The Regional Head of Retrocession Technical Accounting & Administration (TA&A) for North America and Latam oversees the retrocession departments for the North America and Latam. They effectively lead the P&C retrocession reinsurance accounting & administration teams, ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly. Additionally, they manage cross-department interactions and oversee both local and global projects, ensuring seamless coordination and execution.

Responsibilities

***Note: This role could be based in either Chicago, IL or Toronto, CA***

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the teams in P&C Retrocession technical accounting and administration, for all North America and Latam
  • Ensure that day-to-day operations run smoothly and within agreed service levels: E.g.
    • Enter risk and policy data into the Underwriting system(s)
    • Undertake peer-to-peer quality assurance checks
    • Ensure all risk and policy queries are communicated through the appropriate channels and responded to in a timely manner.
    • Ensure proper control of the technical bookings performed by the teams
    • Accurate oversight of credit control process, ensuring aged debt and excess cash queries are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement the accounting department's goals, objectives, and strategies for the region in alignment with the overall company and TA&A vision.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for the region and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks within the region, including reviewing and implementing appropriate internal controls and procedures.
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with regional accounting regulations, standards, and internal policies.
  • Team Management: Supervise and provide guidance to local managers in the region, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify training needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, such as underwriting, finance, claims, and actuarial, to ensure accurate and timely information exchange, resolve issues, and support business objectives.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with local CFOs and local CEOs. Ensure effective communication and coordination between the regional accounting departments and local management teams.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance accounting processes and systems, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, and standardization across the region.
  • Audit and Compliance Reviews: Coordinate with local managers and support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with audit requirements and addressing any findings or recommendations.
  • Performance Analysis: Analyse performance, key metrics, and trends within the region, providing insights and recommendations to improve processes and operational efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain a strong network within the Region and the group and exchange and apply "best practice" methods.
  • Manage and mentor staff and develop a strong technical accounting & administration team with focus on building up a solid talent pipeline.
  • Monitor carefully costs and budget of the department


Qualifications

Desired Professional Competencies:
  • 6+ years in the financial services industry, preferably in insurance and / or reinsurance.
  • 5+ years of managing teams with diverse cultural, language, and professional backgrounds.
  • Expertise in P&C technical reinsurance and direct accounting & administration.
  • Interpersonal, intercultural, and interdisciplinary communication and coordination skills.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Retrocession Expertise (Preferred).

Desired Personal Competences:
  • Technical Expertise: The candidate should have a strong understanding of GAAP, US STAT / accounting regulations, as well as experience with complex accounting issues and transactions.
  • Organizational Skills: The candidate should have strong organizational skills and be able to manage their team and workload effectively.
  • Communication Skills: The candidate should have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and be able to effectively communicate accounting concepts and ideas to team members and stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: The candidate should have a high level of attention to detail and be able to accurately review financial statements and reports to ensure their accuracy and compliance
  • Global Thinking.

  • Leadership: As the head of the regional team, the candidate should have strong leadership skills and be able to motivate and guide their team towards achieving their goals.

  • Interpersonal Skills: The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with team members and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

ILLINOIS DISCLOSURE:

"Pay Range for roles performed in Illinois: $162,000 - $220,000 base salary per year. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance. The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives.
