JOB SUMMARY:

The Supervisor of Advanced Academics (formerly Extended Learning Programs) performs a variety of administrative duties including, but not limited to, the planning and implementation of instructional programs centered on Gifted and Talented/High Learning Ability improvement initiatives. This includes programs such as: AP Programs, IB Programs, Magnet programs, and Advanced Academic and Mentoring programs (AAMP).

The Supervisor will develop plans to increase K-12 student enrollment from under-represented populations and to address achievement gaps in classes between groups of students, especially multilingual learners and other subgroups. The Supervisor will also work with Assessment and Evaluation to create and implement evaluation plans to determine the effectiveness of existing programs to ensure students are prepared for high school, college, and career.

The Supervisor reports directly to Executive Director of Teaching & Learning.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Education or related field
  • Valid Professional Utah Administrative/Supervisory License or a valid Administrative/Supervisory license from another state that is transferrable to Utah.
  • A Valid Utah Gifted and Talented Endorsement or an out of state endorsement that is transferrable to Utah, OR a willingness to design and complete an approved course of study within three years specific to the needs of this program.
  • At least 3 years of licensed classroom and/or licensed administrative experience in an extended education program or a school with an extended education program.
  • Three years of licensed administrative experience, including supervising and evaluating teachers, providing feedback to improve program fidelity, and developing teacher efficacy through professional growth and performance.
  • Three years of experience using student performance data to analyze statistical trends, establish baselines for standard performance in various programs, and develop plans for program improvement.
  • Experience creating consistent documents, presentations, and meeting materials that create a program identity that will be recognizable to stakeholders and increase program recognition in the community.
  • Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills.
  • A valid driver's license that allows the applicant/employee to operate a motor vehicle in Utah legally.
  • The selected candidate must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal background check.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Have an ESL endorsement or will obtain one within 4 years of hire with the district.
  • Three or more years of experience in a Title I school(s).
  • Experience in middle and/or high schools.
  • Demonstration of effective work with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders such as families, educators, administrators, and/or an advisory or school board.
  • Two or more years of experience implementing or monitoring current state and federal policies and regulations for gifted education.
  • Ability to provide positive and inspirational leadership/guidance.
  • Experience supervising and evaluating the conduct/performance of assigned personnel.
  • Ability to implement policies, procedures and/or processes for providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Spanish Speaker: speaks, reads, writes and understands spoken Spanish.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to equity, excellence, and achievement for all students and learning community stakeholders.
  • Participate in ongoing internal review of proposed programs to assess their effectiveness and alignment with current district and state initiatives.
  • Lead the development of a scope and sequence/curriculum map for Advanced Academic courses centered on teaching and learning improvement initiatives, including working with content area supervisors and specialists to connect with and enhance existing district programs and resources.
  • Prepare program teachers to provide teaching and learning strategies that support the identification and success of BIPOC and non-traditional students.
  • Research, develop, and deploy a plan to support identification of gifted students from non-traditional backgrounds, especially multilingual learners, using alternative research-based assessments.
  • Continue to implement and revise the 5-Year Plan based on evidence-based research, using program resources and personnel to close documented achievement gaps between student groups, particularly in underserved and under-represented student groups.
  • Lead teachers in developing and/or revising a viable curriculum for student achievement.
  • Oversee and coordinate testing and assessments, using a testing team, to determine eligibility for ELP programs.
  • Collaborate with Teaching and Learning content specialists and all other relevant internal and external stakeholders to align instruction and resources for systematic improvement of student achievement.
  • Develop appropriate professional development for program teachers to support for the social and emotional needs of gifted/talented students.
  • Perform supervisory duties, including coaching, mentoring, evaluating, and providing feedback regarding performance and conduct of all assigned personnel to develop a culture of accountability and achievement.
  • Develop and deliver professional growth activities designed to support school/district goals; implement policies, procedures, and/or processes that comply with mandated requirements.
  • Consistently demonstrate excellent critical thinking, decision making and organizational skills.
  • Collaborate with other district and state GT leaders; attend a variety of meetings; stay current on applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations; prepare written materials (e.g. budgets, curriculum, reports, directives, memos, etc.) prepare and deliver presentations.
  • Supervise assigned programs and related financial activity to ensure performance objectives are met, allocations are accurate, revenues and expenses are within budget and/or operational practices are followed.
  • Demonstrated experience in being ethical, courteous and provide educational leadership in employment activities.
  • Responsible for compliance with all requirements of the Utah Educational Leadership Standards.
  • Maintain professional workplace etiquette and represent the department/district in a professional manner; maintain confidentiality; observe FERPA and other student privacy laws.
  • Work with limited supervision; ability to work effectively under constant deadlines and time constraints; manage multiple tasks and responsibilities and prioritize accordingly.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance for the purpose of fulfilling job requirements efficiently and effectively. Will be required to attend and supervise activities, events, and meetings outside of normal work hours on a regular basis.
  • Drive to school locations and other job-related sites.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operations of Teaching and Learning.


  • WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • The usual and customary methods of performing job functions require sitting, walking, standing, bending, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling; driving an automobile, etc.
  • Risks found in the typical work environment which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.
