Summary

We are seeking experienced, Northeast Ohio Mechanical Engineering candidates to apply for the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the engineering development of novel consumer and commercial products from concept through initial production. The Senior Mechanical Engineer's primary responsibility is to assure the completion of all engineering tasks required in the assigned project, coordinating internal and external resources as needed. The Senior Mechanical Engineer's secondary responsibility is to execute engineering tasks as needed where internal associate engineering or external technical resources are not available. Projects span a number of different sectors including medical devices, consumer goods and more!

Essential Functions
  • Manage technical resources within the constraints of the Scope-Of-Work (SOW).
  • Recommend any necessary SOW changes to the Project Manager, Sr. Project Manager or Program Director.
  • Manage engineers, mechanical designers and prototype technicians in the transition from feasibility prototypes to production-ready designs.
  • Support the Project Manager in the presentation of solutions to the client to communicate the inherent advantages, challenges and tradeoffs associated with different technology options.
  • Collaborate with consumer research and industrial design associates to translate consumer research discoveries into product requirements.
  • Perform FEA structural and thermal mechanical design analysis.
  • Perform (CFD) computational fluid dynamics analysis.
  • Review the general patent landscape to discover issues potentially affecting design. Draft invention disclosures. Collaborate with outside patent counsel on more formal IP research.
  • Coordinate technical feasibility studies, including design, fabrication and evaluation of proof-of-concept prototypes. Collaborate with prototype technicians on the fabrication, testing, and iterative improvements of prototypes, providing task-level assistance where necessary.
  • Ensure that designs meet applicable standards and requirements (UL/CSA, IEC, ISO, etc.).
  • Support the sourcing group on technology transfers to potential manufacturers. Provide task-level assistance to the sourcing group as necessary (e.g., site visits, communications).
  • Coordinate independent technical research and engineering studies.
  • Participate in periodic project internal and client meetings to ensure continuity and cohesion amongst the team.
  • Demonstrate the ability to respect and support colleagues at all levels. Consistently contribute to a positive work environment for all associates. Mentor junior associates.
  • Assist the New Business Development team in the generation of Scope-Of-Work (SOW) documentation.

Requirements

Mandatory
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the engineering development of related products.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with mass production methods, including thermoplastic & elastomeric molding, sheet metal stamping, extrusion, automated assembly, coating, and plating.
  • Demonstrated experience in Design of Experiment and technical feasibility studies.
  • Medium proficiency in PTC Creo CAD software.
  • Medium proficiency with the application of (CFD) computational fluid dynamics and (FEA) finite element analysis in the engineering development of related products (structural and thermal).
  • Competent in CREO Mechanisms Dynamic Analysis - able to model and apply constraints and boundary conditions to analyze complex mechanisms in CREO. General kinematic design experience.
  • The ability and desire to 'flex' between military, medical, consumer, industrial product types.
  • Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.


Desired but not mandatory:
  • 10+ years in relevant career experience.
  • Consultancy experience with at least one prior employer.
  • Advanced proficiency in PTC Creo CAD software or SolidWorks CAD software, including complex surfacing and advanced assembly modeling. o
  • Proficiency in using ANSYS TM CFD and FEA in the engineering development of related products.
  • Experience in global component sourcing and vendor selection.
  • Experience with site visits to offshore manufacturers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team environment.


Education Requirements

Mandatory:
  • BS degree in engineering or related technical disciplines.

Desired:
  • BS degree in Mechanical engineering
  • Master's degree in a relevant science major (mechanical, electrical or biomedical engineering)
