Job Description

We are currently seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer for a mid-size consulting firm. This position focuses on design engineering for small to mid-sized projects in heavy industrial environments. Initially, the role involves heavy design work, progressing into engineering and project management. The role has a strong structural focus, particularly on retrofit projects within existing industrial facilities.
Responsibilities
  • Perform civil and/or structural design duties as stand-alone projects or as part of multi-disciplined projects.
  • Assist project manager in developing estimates, schedules, material lists, design concepts, design drawings, and other project documentation per customer and corporate guidelines.
  • Perform field work and technical research.
  • Maintain project files and documentation using document control databases.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products and services in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Track and comply with scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Perform field work in industrial environments to collect design information and verify tie-ins, function, and clearances.
  • Provide temporary field support activities for engineering support during construction.
  • Assist engineers with cost and material estimates and preliminary design studies.
  • Interface directly with clients.
  • Check the accuracy and quality of drawings.
Essential Skills
  • Civil/Structural Engineering degree from an ABET accredited undergraduate program.
  • Knowledgeable of basic civil and structural material specifications to ensure all necessary information for material purchase, fabrication, and construction is included on finished drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Results-oriented and a team player.
  • Uncompromised commitment to quality.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Preferred coursework in AutoCAD, Revit, 3D CAD, Advance Steel, and RISA 3D.
  • Valid Driver's License.
Work Environment

The team consists of 1 Department Manager (PE), 1 senior engineer (PE), 2 engineers (both PEs), and 1 senior structural designer. This is the smallest team in the firm, but they work closely with mechanical, process, and electrical teams. The position is in-office, Monday to Friday, located in Midlothian, VA near interstate 288 and route 360. The firm is private, family-owned, and has a family-oriented culture with 80 total employees. Founded in 1986, the firm has grown significantly and serves Fortune 500 companies in various industries
Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $53.00/hr.
