Basic Commerce and Industries, Inc. (BCI) is seeking candidates to fill one (1) full time Systems Safety Engineer position to execute engineering and system safety for Over The Horizon (OTH) Missile System safety programs under NSWC Dahlgren. This successful candidate will become part of the BCI Systems Safety Engineering group. This group provides specific, tailored, Warfare System and System Safety Engineering support to several Coast Guard, Naval Sea Systems Command, Joint, and Naval Air Systems engineering, program acquisition and fleet support activities. The successful candidate must be an energetic self-starter, able to work productively independently and in team environments, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks in parallel.

Experience Required: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering, scientific, business or technical discipline or military operational experience at the E5 level or higher. 10+ years of general operational experience in systems engineering for DoD weapon systems programs, OR 10 years' combination US Navy, civil service, or industry experience. Two (2) years of qualified experience in systems safety, gained while on active duty or in engineering serving in support of AEGIS, SSDS, small combatants, submarines, land based test sites or some combination of those platforms is desired but not required. Operational experience at sea while on active duty is a major benefit but is not a requirement. Experience with missile systems, shock qualification, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Missile Power Application Non-Launch (MPAN), Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Bent Pin Analysis (BPA) is a major benefit, but not required. Two (2) years' experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) is required.
Description of Duties: The Systems Safety Engineer (SSE) will provide support to the safety efforts of NSWC Dahlgren. This role includes working with the Principals For Safety (PFS) and Program Management in the identification and execution of required safety analyses, risk characterization and risk acceptance in support of program milestones leading to certification. Execution of this program will require a close day to day working relationship with several activities to execute the safety program successfully. The scope of the Safety Program includes systems safety engineering and hazard analysis for the OTH Missile System as it is integrated with several Combat Systems and as a stand-alone system on various platforms. Day to day engineering support or tasking will include schedule planning, engineering change reviews, ship change reviews, hazard analysis, mishap risk analysis, developing or identifying system safety design requirements for hazard mitigation, hazard record entry and maintenance in the Hazard Tracking System, coordination of system safety efforts with interfacing activities, performing data collection and recording of system safety documents. The SSE will work within a safety organization at BCI that includes safety professionals supporting Aegis, SSDS, various US Navy Combat Systems support systems, Force Level (USN Strike Group) and US Coast Guard platform and combat systems safety.
Local (within the continental US) travel may be required for no more than 15% of time, not to include weekends or holidays. Travel outside continental US may be required for brief periods.
