Position Summary

Guggenheim Securities, the Investment Banking division of Guggenheim Partners, is seeking a Geologist to join our growing Houston Energy Investment Banking team. This role would be fully integrated into our technical and finance team.

Guggenheim Securities' Energy Investment Banking group provides specialized financial advisory across multiple sub-sectors of Energy including energy transition, upstream, midstream and oil services. Lean deal teams provide exceptional experience and competitive deal flow for incoming candidates.

Essential Job Functions
  • Individual will be joining a technical team of geologists and engineers who work on upstream, midstream, and sustainability M&A and financing transactions
  • Responsible for the technical and financial evaluation of oil and gas assets and lead the geology discipline on a given deal team
  • Role will involve GIS analysis, well log interpretation, map construction, cross-section analysis, landing zone analysis, case study creation, and building client presentations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform geologic mapping analysis to characterize and describe the subsurface
  • Build basin studies and remain up to date on current industry trends across a wide variety of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon basins
  • Determine spatial trends in rock quality at the asset-and basin-scales
  • Develop technical case studies and collaborate closely with engineering experts to relate geologic subsurface factors to the recoveries of oil and gas
  • Identify subsurface complexities and uncertainties that may impact operational results
  • Quantify the potential for future drilling locations for oil and gas assets
  • Play a key role in ad hoc, data room, pitch presentation, and technical working sessions
  • Foster and maintain relationships with technical counterparties from our client organizations to ensure alignment on subsurface evaluation strategy


Preferred Qualifications
  • Highly motivated and creative individual to work in a fast-paced environment within the Energy Investment Banking Group
  • Role is client facing and the individual should be comfortable speaking in front of groups and have a strong ability to communicate technical views
  • Highly organized, with the initiative and ability to work with limited supervision
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Effective process management abilities


Basic Qualifications
  • Preferred experience of 3-7 years
  • Master's degree in Geology
  • SIE Exam, Series 79 and Series 63 must be acquired within 150 days of employment
  • Knowledge and experience with industry software (Petra, ArcGIS, Spotfire) and support products (Enverus Prism)


Work Location
  • Currently, this role is expected to be in the Houston office at least 4 days per week.
