The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Chief Solution Officer, the Solution Owner - AMI is responsible for developing a comprehensive AMI strategy, including metering, communications, and AMI 2.0 components. This is a market-facing position and includes market analysis, competitive analysis, pricing strategy and interface with the commercial marketing, sales engineering, and sales teams. The Solution Owner plays an integral role in helping Tantalus continue to expand our broader AMI solution within our target market segment. This position works with a multitude of stakeholders, both internally with departments including Product Development, Sales, Manufacturing and Field Operations, and externally with current and prospective customers located throughout North America and the Caribbean Basin.

The preferred location for this position is our Burnaby, BC headquarters, but our US offices or remote will be considered for the right candidate.

Specifically, the Solution Owner - AMI will:
- Be the product management lead on metering and connected device hardware/software, supported on an advanced loT communications network.
- Own the complete product lifecycle of our AMI solutions and products.
- Create/maintain roadmap by evaluating necessary features and tracking opportunities for solution innovation within the industry. Perform market and competitive analysis to guide the evolution of our AMI product line.
- Engage with customers and the market to capture current and future customer, product, and system requirements/needs and assess the business feasibility of these needs (revenue, profitability margins, customer satisfaction).
- Develop a comprehensive go-to-market strategy and be the internal evangelist for AMI at Tantalus.
Support the drafting of content by marketing (ROI analysis, differentiation, defining value to the customer, white papers, case studies). - Plan and coordinate with commercial marketing for new product introductions, including branding, messaging, collateral, demos and training for sales engineering and the sales team.
- Train Sales Engineers on the capabilities, differentiation and value creation.
- Prioritizing the on-going and future investment, development and commercial efforts of the AMI solution to support the Company's overall strategic goals.
- Develop business cases, perform ROI analysis and assess profitability of offering to Tantalus (revenue, invested capital, opportunity cost, etc.).
What you Bring:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Marketing or Business Administration is required. An MBA is an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of senior product management experience within companies supporting the utility or telecommunication industries.
- Utility industry and or AMI/smart grid communications experience In-depth knowledge of electric metering (experience working with water and gas meters is an asset)
- Ability to balance strategic, internal and external operational requirements (technical vs market).
- Proven leadership experience in leading and developing teams and working collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders across North America.
- Commercial experience introducing new features, applications and solutions as part of a New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
- Experience in designing and delivering customer presentations and solution design.
- System level product management - able to identify, define, and manage individual features and products at a system level.
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Trello, Confluence, SalesForce.com, Responsive.
- Experience working with external partners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
- Excellent business acumen and business case development experience.
- Proven ability to think strategically and analytically, with sound-technical knowledge.
- Proven ability to plan and execute against a plan.
