JOB FUNCTION

The Investigative Research Associate will conduct research and investigative diligence for our private and public investment analysts and portfolio managers, and will also help to support a team of four Investigative Analysts. The Investigative Research Associate will play a key role in generating actionable and insightful conclusions, and will be responsible for providing support across all phases of the diligence process, including:
  • Conducting proprietary research on both management teams and unique business issues via live source interviews and open-records work
  • Performing background checks on company management
  • Identifying and engaging unique sources to assist in the diligence process
  • Reviewing and analyzing outstanding litigation for target companies or individuals
  • Assessing and summarizing publicly available reviews of companies, products and individuals
  • Analyzing news databases to identify any relevant controversies or red flags related to target companies or individuals
  • Clearly communicating diligence findings to Investment team members
  • Assisting with other ad-hoc team projects

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:
  • 5-6 years of investigative research and diligence experience required; fundamental investment experience and/or legal work a plus but not required
  • Bachelor's degree with a record of academic success (required)
  • A working knowledge of investigative databases
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Ability to distill large amounts of information into succinct research conclusions
  • Interest in companies and the investment management industry

The base salary range for this position in New York City is $125,000 to $175,000. In addition to base salary, Viking employees may be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, 100% coverage of medical and dental premiums, and paid lunches. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be individually determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education, and other qualifications.
