Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a strategic leader for a one-year interim role of Manager, Payroll Administration within HR Shared Services. Reporting to the Director, Payroll and Time & Labour, this role supports payroll service delivery for over 110,000 employees across AHS, Covenant Health, Carewest, Capital Care and Alberta Precision Labs-the largest payroll operation in Alberta. This position leads a team of approximately 30 employees responsible for processing high-volume payroll transactions. Key responsibilities include: Leading, coaching, and managing a high-performing payroll team. Planning and prioritizing payroll operations and staff resources. Ensuring compliance with legislation, policy, and collective agreements. Managing payroll audits, controls, and data integrity activities. Supporting overpayment recovery and WCB processes. Collaborating on process improvements and change initiatives across HRSS.

The Manager, Payroll Administration is a key leadership role within HR Shared Services, responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-volume payroll services for over 110,000 employees across AHS, Covenant Health, Carewest, Capital Care and Alberta Precision Labs. This role provides strategic direction to a team of payroll professionals, ensures compliance with collective agreements and legislation, and supports continuous process improvement. With a focus on operational excellence and data integrity, the Manager plays a vital role in ensuring timely, accurate, and customer-focused payroll service delivery. The successful candidate will bring deep payroll expertise, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for driving operational excellence in a complex and fast-paced environment.
Progressive leadership experience in large and complex organizations. Strong customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated knowledge, proficiency and experience with Payroll Processing within large organizations, where multiple terms of employment and/or collective agreements are administered. Sound knowledge and expertise in HR/Payroll Management Systems. Able to work in a fast paced, growing and challenging environment. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making. Proficient in MS Office suite, including Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
NPI Certification (PCP or CPM). Previous experience in a healthcare environment preferred. Previous experience working in a complex, unionized environment preferred. PeopleSoft Payroll/HR system experience is preferred.
