The Physician ENT provides Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT or otolaryngology) services for inpatients, outpatients, and emergency department patients at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. Coordinates and plans ENT/Audiology services. Acts as ENT consultant for providers and patients throughout the Consortium including travel to Juneau, Klawock, Haines, and other rural communities as appropriate.
Requires high level skill and medical decision-making in the practice of ENT medicine including outpatient evaluations and care plans and decisions regarding the need for surgery. Surgical decision-making should be appropriate to the patient's needs and facility capacity. Surgical care includes preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative planning and care.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job
- Provides comprehensive ENT surgical services to inpatients, outpatients, and ED patients at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, to include clinical evaluations and decisions regarding non-surgical and surgical therapy and treatments.
- Serves as ENT consultant for SEARHC health care providers throughout Southeast Alaska. Includes field visits to the Ethel Lund Medical Center in Juneau, Haines, Klawock, and other communities as appropriate.
- Serves as chief of service or in other leadership positions as requested by the medical director. Participates in all medical staff functions as requested, to include quality assurance reviews and medical staff meetings.
- Leads and supervises Audiologist and Assistant, Audiology/ENT.
- Abides by medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and clinical services policies and procedures.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Successful completion of an accredited ENT surgical residency
- Licensure by the Alaska State Medical Board
- Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology
- BLS Certification required. Certification in ATLS, ACLS and PALS is desired but not required.
Experience Required
- 5 years or more experience in otolaryngology is desired but not required.
Knowledge of
- Knowledge of ENT surgical practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of allopathic medical theories and therapies.
- Detailed knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Skills in
- Surgical skills related to the practice of otolaryngology.
- Communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Surgical skill related to emergency care in ENT, particularly related to advanced airway management.
Ability to
- Ability to work independently in caring for complex patients.
- Ability to coordinate care through the operating room and perioperative services teams.
- Ability to communicate with patients and staff in an open, caring and supportive manner.
Travel Required
- Must be able to travel as required.
- Travel is by jet, small aircraft, or ferry.
