This posting will be used to fill 1 permanent full-time positions working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.
This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.
Who we are
The Youth Probation Office is responsible for supervising and supporting young persons subject to various court orders and extrajudicial sanctions across the Yukon Territory. As part of the Youth Justice Unit, we work closely with government and non-profit community partners to promote the rehabilitation of our clients and ensure public safety.
Your role
The Mobile Youth Probation Officer is responsible for providing supervision and comprehensive case management services to young persons under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) by balancing the interests of the young person, victims and communities and reducing high risk behaviour through the implementation of comprehensive and individualized case management plans for each young person.
The Mobile Youth Probation Officer will also be responsible for coordinating and monitoring Extrajudicial Sanctions options for young persons in conflict with the law, as provided for the YCJA and promotes community understanding and acceptance of youth justice objectives and activities.
This position is specifically assigned to Youth Probation files in communities outside Whitehorse. A significant portion of this position's duties will include building and maintaining relationships with Yukon First Nation Governments, local RCMP detachments and other community partners. As such, the position will require frequent travel outside Whitehorse to meet with clients and their families, to attend circuit court and to collaborate with community partners.
The position also has legislated duties under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and as an officer of the Court.

Essential qualifications

- Post-secondary degree in law, criminology, social sciences or related field;
- Experience in providing case management services and trauma-informed care;
- Experience working within the criminal justice system in a case management or investigations capacity would be an asset; and,
- Experience working with First Nations communities, preferably Yukon First Nations would be an asset.

Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- Travel within Yukon Territory on a regular basis (up to 50%) with occasional travel required outside of territory;
