The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Centre Director, you will be accountable for all administration, managerial and operational functions of your assigned shift. You will ensure that all tasks are carried out in accordance with policies and directives. Using your strong communication and interpersonal skills, you will participate in staff recruitment, training, mentoring, evaluation, supervision and performance management. You will have a direct effect on the operational budget through fiscally responsible hiring of staff in order to backfill absences when required. Expenditure Officer training and responsibilities will be required along with processing approvals on 1GX. In addition, you will oversee all emergencies that occur in the facility including making sure operations officers are accessing and utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment as required by Occupational Health and Safety standards.Your excellent administration skills will be applied and reflected in report writing and in the development of Centre Standard Operating Procedures.

Other responsibilities may include providing input on a variety of standing and special committees and involvement in special projects, as required. In the absence of the Director in off hours and/or weekends, you may be requested to act on his behalf. Your strong problem solving skills coupled with your well-developed decision-making abilities will ensure your success in this role.

Qualifications

Requirements:
  • A university degree in a related field plus at least 4 years of related experience in the field of Law Enforcement.
  • Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
  • Related education may include but is not limited to Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Corrections Foundations, etc.
  • A valid Alberta Driver's license is required for this position.

  • Prior acting experience in a management position within the Correctional Services Division

Notes

There is one permanent and one temporary(12 months) full-time positions available.

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week assigned shift on the 3/3/3 shift rotation working afternoon, days and night shifts.

Location: Peace River Correctional Centre - 224044 HWY 684 Peace River, Alberta, Canada.

Selection will be based on an in-person interview and reference checks.

This position is eligible for a lump-sum payment of $51 bi-weekly in addition to the base salary due to 6/3.

Consideration will be given to moving expenses.

An Employee who is employed at a location north of the 57th parallel of north latitude in the Province of Alberta may be paid in addition to the Employee's basic salary, a Northern Allowance of two hundred and forty-one dollars and thirty-eight cents ($241.38) for each bi-weekly pay period served.

Final candidates for this position will be required to provide a Fingerprint Based Criminal Record Check. Any associated costs will be your responsibility and you are only required to provide this check if requested. We cannot accept on-line Criminal Record Checks, from a non-Policing Agency.
