About the Department

Recognized recently by Forbes as a top employer in North Carolina, NC State University fosters an environment where the impactful work of its staff and faculty extends throughout the community, the state, and beyond. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at NC State University supports this mission by delivering a comprehensive suite of IT services to students, faculty, and staff. Within OIT's Shared Services Department, the Automated Workload Services (AWS) team performs vital functions that are essential to university business operations year-round.

The team administers software packages such as IBM Workload Scheduler for job scheduling, IBM B2B Integrator for Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) processing, and OnBase for report management. Utilizing these tools, the team manages large volumes of critical processing 24x7, 365 days/year, according to varying university business cycles. The business processes supported by AWS include Bi-Weekly, Monthly, and Supplemental Payrolls, Benefits and Distribution in HR; Registration & Records and Financial Aid in Student Information Systems; and Financial AP Pay-cycle, Capital Pay-cycle, Purchase Card, and Reconciliation processing in Financial Systems, and many more. Given the time sensitivity and critical nature of the work, all team members are designated as mandatory during adverse weather and all emergencies

The team is also responsible for monitoring and maintaining the health of Configuration Items in the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB). The team collaborates with other OIT teams and IT teams across the university to onboard new resources, assist with automation efforts and ensure the completeness and accuracy of the CMDB.
