DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Fire Department (AFD)

HOURS OF WORK: 40-hour work week. Schedule as approved by management.

LOCATION OF WORK: 1140 Airport Heights

Example of Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Chief (EMS), the 40-hour Battalion Chief of EMS Quality Assurance/ Quality Improvement (QA/QI) manages all activities related to the Department's quality assurance and continuous improvement programs, including the development, implementation, and administration of the QA/QI program. Manages the QA/QI program through review of written Records Management System (RMS) reports including the Electronic Health Records (EHR), statistical analysis and reporting, and biomedical devices and software systems required for QA/QI analysis and reporting. Clinical and QA/QI management of the shift EMS Support Group paramedic ALS responders. Attends meetings as required to represent AFD in QA/QI activities. Submits weekly and annual QA/QI reports. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and nine (9) years of experience in communications or emergency management, which includes seven (7) years of emergency medical service, nursing, public safety, fire or a law enforcement field, five (5) years of which must have been as a supervisory or leadership role.
OR
Associates Degree in Emergency Management, Communications, Fire Service Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field and seven (7) years of experience in emergency medical service, nursing, public safety, fire or a law enforcement field, three (3) years of which must have been as a supervisory or leadership role.
OR
Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management, Communications, Fire Service Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and five (5) years of experience in emergency medical service, nursing, public safety, fire or a law enforcement field one (1) year of which must have been as a supervisory or leadership role.
All applicants must possess/obtain:
Valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
State of Alaska Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic Certification License OR State of Alaska Registered Nurse License within six (6) months of hire.
Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 6 months of hire.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. Military Service Interview Preference:

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
