Position Summary
The Director for Prospect Management and Research will execute a strategic vision for research and move the management of Morehouse College's most promising prospects for significant financial support. This position will establish efforts vital to Morehouse's campaign, including a comprehensive prospect management system, innovative research infrastructure, and robust prospect discovery program.
The Director of Prospect Management and Research will provide strategic support and analysis for the Office of the President, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, board and campaign leaders, and fundraisers. Provides research specific fundraising issues by analyzing data, designing and executing projects using a variety of research tools, peer benchmarking or other assessment techniques.
The Prospect Management and Research director is a data-driven professional providing portfolios management systems and expertise. S/he will develop strategies and tactics to coordinate portfolios, solicitation plans, and specific prospects for central and unit-based fundraising initiatives. S/he also ensures the pipeline activity aligns with business policies and stage aging requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
5+ years of prospect research and relevant experience in fundraising experience.
Data driven professional with demonstrated analytical, project design/management and problem-solving skills required.
Experience in effectively managing and leading direct reports and teams.
Mastery and curiosity around research resource materials and prospect management methodologies consistent with APRA's Advanced Body of Knowledge.
Ability to use on-line databases creatively and effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
Develop the tools necessary to maintain an informative prospect management system that relates directly to fundraising and campaign goals and targets. Lead efforts to advance prospect management tracking in Salesforce.
Create and implement metrics and benchmarks to manage and evaluate work volume, work quality and collaboration effectiveness. Develop and manage workflows, measure their efficiency and re-calibrate when necessary.
Oversee creation and implementation of a donor-centric prospect management system (policy, procedures, tracking and reporting) to facilitate pipeline activity for all fundraising activity in collaboration with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Associate Vice President for Strategic Advancement Operations.
Develop the tools necessary to maintain an informative prospect management system that relates directly to fundraising and campaign goals and targets. Lead efforts to advance prospect management tracking in Salesforce.
Help develop prospect management strategies, business processes and protocols, specifically those activities focused on informing and motivating portfolio managers to move major gift prospects through the pipeline continuum.
Generate fundraising activity reports through the management of contacts, strategy plans, solicitation pipelines, performance metrics, etc. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of data to enable effective revenue stream forecasting and inform fundraising performance management.
Adheres to ethical and confidentiality guidelines of Morehouse College, Institutional Advancement, CASE, AFP and APRA.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Lead the creation, dissemination and utilization of research and prospect management efforts to significantly expand the prospect base, to strengthen the prospect pipeline, and to enhance prospect management and the solicitation pipeline to maximize fundraising success.
Strong strategic thinking, research, writing and verbal presentation skills; organizational ability and initiative
Perform thorough analysis of complex data, draws sound conclusions, and devises actionable strategies; analyze and synthesize information, to manage several projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
Effective communicator and collaborator working in a cross-functional environment
Strong project and time management skills with attention to details.
Analyze and synthesize accumulated prospect information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to campus. Utilize ethical intelligence-gathering techniques of the information profession.
Oversee creation and implementation of prospect identification services and ensure that all frontline fundraising teams have an ongoing stream of prospects for discovery and engagement. Employ standard identification processes, including predictive analytics, descriptive analytics (data mining) and wealth screening. Demonstrate ability to identify and utilize new and/or innovative prospect identification resources and methodologies, keeping up with industry trends and best practices.
Maintain an overall knowledge of Morehouse College's top prospects. Identify strategies for creatively engaging individual and cohorts of prospects and donors, employing knowledge of cross-campus partners, Morehouse College Trustees and other resources for engagement.
Ensure adherence to the ethical and confidentiality guidelines for CASE and APRA, as well as Morehouse College's standards for ethics and data privacy. Develop standards to ensure research and prospect data collection and use conforms to ethical principles, confidentiality requirements, federal and state regulations and public information laws.
Oversee prospect research activities , philanthropic trends, and patterns of wealth and industry. Provide vision, best practice recommendations and direction for effective resources and tools.
