The University of Chicago Department of Pathology is recruiting a full-time open rank faculty position in the Section of Transfusion, Hemostasis, and Apheresis Medicine (THAM). The successful applicant will have clinical responsibilities in transfusion medicine (blood bank and donor collection activities), apheresis, and coagulation. The appointee will also participate in on-call service as well as section quality improvement activities, blood utilization oversight, and regulatory compliance. Other duties will include supervision and teaching of medical trainees and students, and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications. UChicago Medicine (UCM), an 811-bed adult and pediatric academic medical center, seeks a dedicated professional to contribute to its laboratory operations supporting a wide range of patient care needs. The Blood Bank issues over 41,000 blood products annually, providing critical support for adult and pediatric Level 1 Trauma, complex cardiac and transplant surgeries, high-risk obstetrics, a Level IV NICU, and cutting-edge oncology and cell therapy services. The Apheresis service performs over 1200 procedures annually, including more than 790 therapeutic procedures such as plasma exchange, red cell exchange, photopheresis, and depletions, as well as stem cell and cell therapy harvests. The hospital-based Blood Donation Center collects approximately 1600 whole blood and plateletpheresis products annually, all of which are used to support UCM patients. The stand-alone Coagulation Lab delivers robust routine, stat, and esoteric coagulation testing, with a specialized focus on cutting-edge platelet function analysis. This position offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the care of massively hemorrhaging trauma patients, hematology patients receiving Immunotherapeutics, and patients with hemolytic disease of the fetus/newborn, working at the forefront of transfusion medicine in a dynamic academic environment. The section directs an ACGME-accredited fellowship in blood banking/transfusion medicine.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible to hold a medical license in the States of Illinois and Indiana, and 3) board certification or board eligibility in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine through the American Board of Pathology.
