Job Description:

bp's deepwater business in the Gulf of America delivers material value from five operated hubs and four non-operated hubs. We are hiring Geophysicist within the Gulf of America business. This role will support base management, reservoir management and reservoir development, in one existing producing or developing assets in Gulf of America region.

This role doesn't include any formal leadership, but there will be opportunities to lead projects within multi-discipline squads or geophysics community. Your line manager will be the GoA geophysics discipline leader. You will be deployed to one of the squads where day-to-day activities/deliverables will be prioritised by the squad leader and area development manager. You will also work in close collaboration with the wells unit and production management squads.

What you will deliver
  • Working with other Subsurface disciplines as part of a multidiscipline team. Integration with the Geologists, Petrophysicists, Reservoir Engineers, Production Engineers, Drilling and Completion engineers, etc.
  • Delivery of Subsurface interpretation and understanding of uncertainties including: Seismic well ties; 3D structural and stratigraphic framework at well, field and regional scales; Qualitative and quantitative reservoir quality predictions; 4D interpretation and integration with seismic to simulations prediction; Depth calibration, etc.
  • Integrate static and dynamic understanding to update the reservoir description (including ISD and RPP frameworks)
  • Contribution to the Area Development plan, inclusive of Integrated Subsurface Description, RPP, Depletion plans, SURM, Surveillance plans, Depletion plans, Technology plans
  • Identify and progress drilling opportunities
  • Contribute to development and update of static and dynamic models
  • Support identification of intervention and active reservoir management opportunities to maximise economic recovery from existing infrastructure.
  • Contribution to seismic fitness and futures sessions, seismic interpretation health checks, data quality assessments, etc.
  • Strong collaboration with seismic delivery and technology teams


What you will need to be successful

In addition to having a degree (or equivalent) in Geology / Geophysics, candidates shoudl also demonstrate:

  • Experience in Subsurface Appraisal, Major Projects, Depletion Planning, Depletion Management, or New Well Delivery
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
