We are looking for a Director, HR Operations, FreshCo to lead our human resources strategy and drive a high-performance culture across our in our FreshCo discount business.

As the Director, HR Operations, FreshCo, you will collaborate with leadership and our franchisees to align people priorities with business objectives, build and sustain positive work environments, and develop a strong pipeline of talent to support ongoing operational success.

Here's where you'll be focusing:

  • Drive HR strategy to build a high-performance culture through talent management, including calibration, employee development (and change management across corporate, field, and franchise teams).
  • Partner with leadership to align on people priorities to support business objectives. Own plan development, own implementation.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of HRBPs in the day-to-day HR operations needs of the Discount network.
  • Partner and collaborate with HR CoEs to support the strategic planning/design of people programs.
  • Own the delivery of HR programs with corporate and store teams.
  • Lead HRBPs to drive consistent deployment of HR tools, systems, processes, policies and procedures, and leadership development curriculum.
  • Foster strong relationships with management teams in all retail locations as well as corporate leaders.
  • Champion the development and sustainment of positive work environments for teams.
  • Champion DE&I within the business.
  • Monitor engagement and employee labour relations issues.
  • Lead the development and execution of an integrated workforce plan, succession plan, and overall talent development plan to create a talent pipeline which supports operational requirements on an ongoing basis (Leads Franchisee in Training Program).
  • Drive the creation and maintenance of a positive work environment between Operations Leadership, Management, corporate, and all employees.
  • Advise franchisee and store management on performance, goal setting, employee relations, and succession planning.
  • Maintain SG&A budgets with senior leaders.
  • Provide professional advice to direct reports and Operations Management in relation to collective agreement administration, employment law, labor law, human rights matters, and any other issues which require conflict resolution.
  • Provide a strong voice within Operations as the advocate for Human Resources requirements and employee considerations.
  • Mitigate risks to the business through effective application of legislation and Sobeys' policies.


What you have to offer:

  • An Undergraduate Degree with a minimum of ten years of relevant experience in HR.
  • Proven track record of working effectively in both Union and Non-Union retail operations settings.
  • Strong leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and drive change in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent technical HR skills and understanding of Employment, Human Rights and Labour laws
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels.
  • Strong business acumen, with a proven ability to balance HR needs with business objectives.
  • Expertise in HR tools, systems, and program implementation.
