Overview:
This role is part of the Bioanalytics Analytical Research group and focuses on advanced protein characterization utilizing a variety of LC-MS techniques. The position supports all facets of Research & Development (R&D) and Manufacturing on a global scale, contributing to product development, manufacturing processes, and investigative efforts. Key responsibilities include the development, qualification, and validation of analytical methods to support all project phases, as well as the characterization of novel drug substances and products. The role also involves contributing to the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) section of regulatory submissions. The individual in this role is expected to work independently under general supervision, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, analyze and interpret complex data, and present findings as needed to support R&D initiatives.
Primary responsibilities of the role. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary:
Exhibit strong organizational and leadership capabilities to drive team and project success. Demonstrate proficiency in operating and utilizing MS instruments, along with associated software and databases. Serve as a subject matter expert in proteomics, conducting advanced analyses to elucidate protein structure, peptide mapping, post-translational modifications, glycan profiling, and quantitative analysis. Lead the characterization of critical process elements to support the manufacturing of novel drug substances and drug products. Author comprehensive documentation for inclusion in the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) section of regulatory submissions. Perform detailed data analysis, present findings to stakeholders, and generate formal reports for publication.

Education and Experience: Senior Research Scientist II requires a Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or a Ph.D. with 6+ years of relevant experience. Principal Scientist I requires a Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience or a Ph.D. with 8+ years of relevant experience. Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in modern instrumental analytical techniques, as well as associated software and databases. LC-MS analysis of lipids and small molecules a plus, HPLC Separation techniques are desirable. Innovative Thinking: Ability to adapt standard approaches to optimize effectiveness and incorporate emerging technologies when appropriate, with frequent collaboration across departments to fulfill project requirements. Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication abilities. Self-Motivation: Strong work ethic, proactive initiative, and sound judgment in decision-making. Autonomy: Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision. Analytical and Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities, including structured decision-making on a routine basis. Technical Proficiency: Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Work is performed in a clinical and/or a laboratory environment. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Exposure to electrical office equipment. Exposure to chemicals. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves. Frequently sits and bends neck for 4-6 hours per day. May stand and twist neck for 2-4 hours per day. Occasionally walks, bends and twists waist and squats. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Moderate lifting of 15-30lbs. with a maximum lift of 35 lbs. May reach above and below shoulder height. Color perception/discrimination, near vision and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Frequently works with diverse groups to obtain consensus on complex issues. Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues. Performs a wide range of complex tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence.
