Overview
The Pharmacy Clinical Program Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, supporting, and optimizing clinical pharmacy programs that enhance patient care, improve medication safety, and drive quality outcomes across the healthcare system. This role provides strategic leadership in advancing clinical programs and pharmacy practice standards while ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. This role collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to improve medication use processes, reduce adverse drug events, and enhance therapeutic outcomes. Additionally, this role monitors performance metrics and utilizes data-driven strategies to ensure pharmacy initiatives align with institutional goals, national guidelines, and best practices, fostering continuous improvements in medication safety, quality, patient outcomes and financial stewardship.

What you will do
  • Collaborate with pharmacy leaders to develop, implement, support, and sustain clinical pharmacy programs that enhance patient outcomes, advance pharmacy practice and align with health system initiatives. Work with division leaders to ensure programs are structured to optimize medication use, improve safety, and support institutional goals.
  • Oversee and support the development and implementation of evidence-based medication management protocols, treatment guidelines, pathways, and therapeutic initiatives to advance patient care and pharmacy practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve medication-related outcomes and ensure the safe, effective, and cost-conscious use of medications.
  • Provides clinical guidance and consultative support to pharmacy teams across the health system, as well as interdisciplinary teams, to enhance medication management. Recommends evidence-based medication therapy regimens, develops monitoring strategies, and identifies cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to optimize patient care and improve clinical outcomes.
  • Oversee the assessment, development, and enhancement of pharmacist clinical competencies and training to ensure high-quality patient care. Provide training, mentorship, and ongoing education to support pharmacists and care teams in maintaining proficiency in evidence-based practice, medication management, and emerging clinical advancements. Foster a culture of continuous learning to advance pharmacy practice and patient care.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, quality, and other stakeholders to lead and support initiatives to enhance clinical quality. Identify opportunities for improvement, implement evidence-based interventions, and monitor key performance metrics to drive continuous quality improvement in both pharmacy practice and patient care.
  • Maintains oversight of the antimicrobial stewardship program and pharmacy lead(s) within this area. Keeps the AMS program in good standing by ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Coordinates updates to facilities and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for pharmacy residents, students, and trainees, providing guidance in clinical practice, research, and professional development. Support structured learning experiences, evaluate performance.

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelors Degree, or higher in Pharmacy (Required)

Experience
  • PGY-1 Residency plus 4 years Clinical Pharmacy experience OR 6 years Clinical Pharmacy experience (Required)
  • 1 year PGY-2 Residency (Preferred)
  • 1 year Leadership experience (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensed Pharmacist - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) within 60 Days(Required)
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) - Board of Pharmacy Specialties (any) within 1 Year(Required)
