Position Description
The St. David's School of Nursing at Texas State University is seeking a Director of the Simulation Laboratory. This key role will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational management, and coordination of student learning experiences within the clinical simulation laboratories. This role encompasses ensuring a high-quality, effective, and interprofessional learning environment that aligns with best practices in simulation education. The Director holds a 50% teaching appointment within the nursing program and actively contributes to the faculty responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service. The Director also leads the College of Health Professions Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee, fostering collaborative learning opportunities across all health-related disciplines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operations: Develop, manage, and maintain the budget for all clinical simulation laboratory operational expenses.
Ensure all simulation laboratories are adequately equipped, functional, and maintained for optimal student and faculty use.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all personnel assigned to the simulation laboratories, including simulation technicians and support staff.
Establish and maintain a comprehensive inventory of simulation supplies and equipment, including a proactive maintenance schedule for all equipment.
Develop and manage a master schedule for the utilization of simulation laboratories by each course and individual lab space.
Maintain a detailed file of laboratory objectives for each nursing course, outlining the nature of the simulation experience, required staffing, and the designated laboratory.
Faculty Support:
Provide expert consultation and support to nursing faculty and students in the effective utilization of the various simulation laboratories and associated technologies.
Collaborate with nursing faculty to develop, review, and maintain a comprehensive file of simulation scenarios, clinical protocols, and debriefing strategies for student practice and remediation.
Student Support:
Develop and implement robust systems for evaluating and measuring student learning outcomes within simulation experiences to enhance the overall effectiveness of simulation-based education.
Representation and Interprofessional Education (IPE) Leadership:
Chair the College of Health Professions Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee, providing leadership and direction for interprofessional learning initiatives.
Develop and implement a strategic plan for the IPE Committee in collaboration with faculty representatives from all eight departments and schools within the College of Health Professions and in alignment with the Associate Dean/School of Nursing Director's vision.
Foster and facilitate interprofessional learning activities and collaborative opportunities for students across various health professions.
Faculty Role:
Fulfill all duties and functions of a nursing faculty member, including active engagement in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses (50% appointment).
Engage in scholarly and creative activities, including research, publications, presentations, and other forms of professional contribution.
Participate actively in service activities at the department, school, university, and/or professional levels.
Seek and pursue external grant funding opportunities to support the growth and advancement of the simulation laboratories and IPE initiatives.
Engage in ongoing continuing education activities to maintain individual professional licensure and/or certification.
Actively pursue and/or maintain certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).
Provide leadership in the pursuit of endorsement from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL).
Actively incorporate the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation into all aspects of simulation laboratory operations and ensure compliance each academic semester.

Required Qualifications
For the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor:
- Hold a BSN degree AND a Master's degree in Nursing (If a Master's in a related field, must have 12 hours of graduate nursing education course work).
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Texas.
- At least two years clinical experience in a registered nurse role.
- A minimum of two years' teaching experience in a professional school of nursing, or equivalent teaching experience.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning consistent with the program vision, mission, and goals as evidenced by a presentation during the campus visit with faculty.
For the rank of Clinical Associate Professor, in addition to those required above:
- Hold a doctorate in nursing or related field or current enrollment in a doctoral program.
- A demonstrated record of accomplishments or activities in scholarship, teaching, and service.
- At least five years clinical experience in a registered nurse role.
- A minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience in a professional school of nursing, or equivalent teaching experience at the university level.
- Demonstrated strong collegial relationships.
For the rank of Clinical Professor, in addition to those required above:
- Hold a doctorate in nursing or related field.
- At least ten years clinical experience in a registered nurse role.
- A minimum of ten years of full-time teaching experience in a professional school of nursing, or equivalent teaching experience at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current doctorate degree or enrollment in a doctoral program.
- Experience in management of daily operations, personnel, and equipment and supplies of a simulation laboratory serving 100-400 BSN students and telehealth simulations for MSN students.
- Experience in program development, curriculum design, informatics and communications systems, simulation, and teaching undergraduate nursing.
- Experience with formats of distance education, to include on-line instruction and online, telehealth simulations.
- Experience in interprofessional education and strategic plan development.
- Experience in higher education including accreditation, program review, and assessment.
- Certification in one or more nursing specialties or nursing education.
- Record of accomplishments in scholarly/creative activities, including grantsmanship, extramural funding, and service.
- Experience in building and promoting community relationships.
- Demonstrated faculty cooperative support and team development.
