Job Summary

The Student Academic Support Senior Manager directs the daily operations of the of Center for Student Academic Support and the various tutoring centers or labs on campus, such as the Reading/Writing Lab, the Math Lab, and the Language Center. Their responsibilities include hiring, training staff, and managing the budget, developing and implementing tutoring and mentoring programs, evaluating student progress and success, and collaborating with faculty to identify student needs and promote tutoring services to improve student academic success through effective academic support.

Primary Responsibilities

Staff Management

  • Recruit, interview, and hire qualified staff and tutors/student mentors.
  • Coordinate with subject programs to provide comprehensive training for new tutors/mentors on tutoring methodologies, subject matter, and center policies.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to employees.
  • Coordinate with subject programs to manage tutor schedules to ensure adequate coverage of student needs.


Program Development and Implementation

  • Assess student academic needs through data analysis and collaboration with academic programs, academic advisors and faculty.
  • Design and implement effective tutoring and support programs, including individual, group, and subject-specific sessions.
  • Develop marketing strategies to promote tutoring services to students and faculty.
  • Stay updated on best practices to increase student academic success and incorporate new approaches when appropriate.


Operational Oversight

  • Manage the budget, including tracking expenses and allocating funds effectively.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff
  • Oversee the Center's technology infrastructure.
  • Establish database and analyze data to inform student progress relative to Early Alert, Probation, and Challenge designation and improve the Center's effectiveness.


Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with faculty to identify at-risk students and develop targeted interventions.
  • Partner with the Registrar, Dean of Students, academic advisors and other student support services to promote student success.
  • Regularly communicate with students, faculty, and administrators about academic support services and program updates.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and teach Student Development courses.
  • Serve as a member for BYUH's Enrollment Services Council.
  • Represent BYUH at CES's Student Success and Retention meetings and coordinate efforts and attend CES conferences or meetings on student success.


Minimum Qualification and Experience Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Adult Education, Counseling, Law, or an academic discipline required.
  • At least 5 years of university teaching experience.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and use insights to inform decision-making.
  • Legal background or familiarity with state and federal regulations on accommodations and data privacy.
  • Familiarity with academic policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Data gathering and analysis.
  • Research and report writing.

Approximate starting salary: $80,000 - $100,000. The wage offered could be above or below range based on education and experience as it relates to the job description.
