POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Manager of Data Engineering will oversee the Data Engineering team and will be a thought leader for enterprise data solutions and delivery across the company. This role will lead, manage, and continue to build the enterprise data engineering function and strategy at QDOBA along with mentoring and coaching a team of data engineers. This high impact role will have an opportunity to lead a team to build our enterprise data solutions and work with cloud technologies such as Snowflake and Matillion that support our Digital Marketing team initiatives. They will also be responsible for ensuring the uptime of our enterprise data warehouse and integrations into our accounting/financial reporting systems. This leader will be an expert at developing, implementing, and operating stable, scalable, low-cost enterprise data solutions that support the QDOBA enterprise.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership
- Drive the vision and roadmap for enterprise system integration and data applications while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and technology strategy.
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate them into technical solutions that drive measurable business value.
- Lead initiatives to modernize and optimize business-critical data systems while maintaining operational stability and reliability.
- Balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day operational needs through effective prioritization and resource allocation.
Technical Execution & Hands-on Skills
- Demonstrate hands-on proficiency in building and maintaining data pipelines using modern orchestration tools and frameworks.
- Design and implement integration patterns using both open-source and commercial tools, showing strong coding capabilities.
- Design and optimize real-time data processing workflows using streaming technologies and message brokers.
- Create and maintain infrastructure-as-code for deployment and configuration of integration solutions.
- Leverage existing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for mission-critical data applications.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolve complex technical issues across various integration patterns and systems.
Operational Excellence
- Lead the development and maintenance of mission-critical data applications while ensuring high availability and performance standards are met.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive SLAs for operational systems and reporting that align with business requirements and technical capabilities.
- Drive efficient system integration and data movement across the enterprise through standardized processes and automated workflows.
- Implement proactive monitoring and alerting systems for business-critical processes to ensure early detection and resolution of issues.
- Ensure continuous improvement of operational efficiency through regular system reviews and optimization initiatives.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Build and lead high-performing teams focused on integration and specialized systems while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Create and maintain clear escalation paths for operational issues while ensuring appropriate coverage and response times.
- Drive efficient cross-functional collaboration with business and technical teams through clear communication channels and established processes.
- Balance competing priorities and resource allocation through structured evaluation frameworks and clear decision-making processes.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build, lead, and mentor the team(s) toward growth and improvement. Conduct regular 1:1s with each direct report, goal settings, performance reviews and career development plans.
- Manage external (near shore/offshore) team of engineers.
- Demonstrate and hold team and suppliers accountable for upholding Qdoba Values.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of experience in data and analytics roles leading development teams.
- 10+ years of experience in data warehousing and BI development projects
- 10+ years of experience integrating with Accounting & Financial systems (ERP), Middleware and custom applications.
- 5+ years of experience in a managerial/leadership position, leading engineers, developers, etc
- Strong understanding of data architecture, governance, and management.
- Experience with SQL technologies (SQL Server Agent, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS)
- Experience with Cloud Data Platform technologies (Snowflake, Matillion, GBQ, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, Talend)
- Experience in C#, .NET, SQL, and other relevant languages
- Experience with full software development lifecycle including coding standards, unit testing, CI/CD, multi-environment development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years in Data Engineering roles within the restaurant/retail industry managing large-scale data transformation initiatives.
- Architectural and design experience with Big Data solutions on Snowflake and SQL Server. Agile methodologies expertise.
- Substantial experience with Big Data migrations and transformations.
- Additional certifications in Snowflake, Azure, AWS, Matillion, Snowflake, Celigo, SQL, GCP, Data Analytics, AI/ML, or related fields.
