Job Summary
Arapahoe Community College is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to shape our computing technology programs to meet government and industry needs while preparing our students for good jobs here in the State of Colorado!
ACC is accepting applications from leaders with academic backgrounds in computing technologies or adjacent disciplines, as well as those with equivalent industry experience who bring a strong understanding of workforce needs and instructional excellence. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking academic or industry leader with a vision for expanding the department's offerings to include emerging fields such as data science, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, educational technology, project management, and/or software and systems engineering aligned with the evolving demands of Colorado's space and advanced-technology industries.
The Computing Technology Faculty Department Chair works with the Academic Dean to provide leadership for high-quality instruction across ACC's multiple locations including the Littleton Campus, Sturm Collaboration Campus in Castle Rock, Legacy Campus in Lone Tree, Colorado Online and across our network of Local Educational Partners (Concurrent Enrollment). The department currently offers in computer science, information technology, computer information systems, programming, network technology, computer information systems, programming, networking technology, gaming, web & digital media, and cybersecurity. This position will support our mission to be a leader in space education and aerospace workforce development by partnering with the to create programs in data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning that prepare students for jobs in Colorado's emerging space and aerospace industries.
The Chair plays a critical role in ensuring instructional excellence and consistency across modalities and locations, working collaboratively with faculty, subject matter experts, academic leadership, and Student Affairs colleagues. Additionally, the chair develops and sustains strategic partnerships with industry, K-12 schools, and community organizations to ensure strong alignment between academic programs and technology career pathways.
Department Chair responsibilities include developing and evaluating curriculum; advising students; assessing student and program objectives; student learning assessment duties; supervision of full-time faculty and part-time instructors; serving on institution-wide committees and statewide task forces; student recruitment; sponsorship of student activities; job placement and community outreach services; selecting textbooks; and attending departmental, school, and College meetings and functions; participating in professional organizations which enhance the educational mission of the college; and developing innovative approaches to learning.
The Faculty Department Chair responsibilities are in addition to the duties outlined in the faculty member's job description. The Faculty Department Chair is a 12-month appointment and works primarily on site at our campus locations. Department Chairs will teach at least one 3-credit course per year as part of base compensation. They may teach up to one additional course (3-5 adjusted credits) each semester as overload. Qualifications

  • The Faculty Department Chair must have a credential in at least one discipline offered at Arapahoe Community College. See the Faculty and Instructor Qualifications Manual for a list of approved qualifications.
  • Experience teaching and/or training various subjects within the discipline.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups, or supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, evaluation, and assessment.
  • Proficiency in using data-driven approaches to improve organizational performance and outcomes.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching and learning strategies.
  • Commitment to student success and educational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, and their applications in education.
  • Experience in mentoring faculty and staff in program development and assessment practices.
  • Demonstrated experience building successful professional relationships and working collaboratively with internal and external constituents and outside agencies.
  • Participation and/or leadership in professional organizations, committees and/or taskforces.
  • Experience with remote and/or online teaching/training and experience developing courses for multiple delivery formats.
  • Ability to develop well-defined assessment/evaluation objectives and high-performance standards aligned with expectations
  • A leadership vision for articulating how the department can meet the workforce demands of Colorado's space and advanced-technology industries.

Compensation
Compensation is based on the 2024-2025 hiring range for faculty, anticipated to be $61,175 - $76,285. the anticipated compensation range for the Faculty Department Chair stipend is $22,383 - $27,532, for a total annual compensation range of $83,558 - $103,817. Additional market rate adjustments may be available for faculty in high demand disciplines such as Computing Technologies. The Faculty Department Chair stipend is calculated using the actual base salary of the faculty member who holds the role. Salary will be prorated for the number of contract days worked.
