Responsibilities
What you'll do...
Battery Cell Integration
- A Test and validation of battery cell design across all formats. Conduct tests (performance, safety, environmental) to ensure the cell meets performance targets, complies with safety regulations, and can withstand real-world operating conditions.
- Ensure supplier production readiness including review of quality documentation, production data to ensure failure modes are eliminated prior to SOP.
- Interface with supplier and modeling teams to ensure accurate and relevant simulations in support of vehicle performance and battery life estimates.
Failure Mode Analysis:
- Utilize advanced knowledge in chemical engineering to conduct thorough failure mode analysis of battery cells.
- Identify root causes of failures and develop effective mitigation strategies to enhance cell reliability and safety.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence of failure modes.
- Apply expertise in chemical engineering principles to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and streamline processes.
Teardown Analysis:
- Conduct detailed teardown analysis of battery cells to evaluate performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
- Utilize Ph.D. level expertise in chemical engineering to assess material properties, electrode configurations, and cell architectures.
- Generate actionable insights from teardown analysis to inform design enhancements and technology advancements.
Evaluation of New Supplier Proposals and Technology:
- Evaluate proposals from potential suppliers of materials, components, and equipment for battery cell construction and manufacturing including new chemistries.
- Assess the compatibility of supplier offerings with product specifications, quality standards, and cost considerations.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies in the field of battery engineering and provide recommendations for their integration into our product portfolio.
Qualifications
You'll have...
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of experience in battery cell development, testing, or manufacturing.
- Demonstrated experience with battery cell testing and validation procedures.
- Experience with failure mode analysis (FMA) and root cause analysis (RCA) of battery cells.
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles related to energy storage systems.
- Knowledge of battery cell components (electrodes, electrolytes, separators) and their properties.
- Familiarity with battery cell manufacturing processes.
Even better, you may have...
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a focus on energy storage systems or related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in battery cell technology, including electrochemistry, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
- Proven track record of conducting failure mode analysis, manufacturing investigations, and teardown analysis in the context of battery engineering.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Innovative mindset with a passion for driving continuous improvement and technological innovation in the field of battery engineering.
