Job Summary:
TCS is seeking a Systems Engineer (Engineer II or III) to support the NAVAIR Crew Served Weapons In-Service Engineering Activity at NSWC Crane. This role will focus on ensuring the safety, reliability, and maintainability of aircraft-mounted machine guns and gun mounts used by Navy and Marine Corps helicopters. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background with hands-on experience in systems engineering, failure analysis, and qualification testing.

Job Summary:
TCS is seeking a Systems Engineer (Engineer II or III) to support the NAVAIR Crew Served Weapons In-Service Engineering Activity at NSWC Crane. This role will focus on ensuring the safety, reliability, and maintainability of aircraft-mounted machine guns and gun mounts used by Navy and Marine Corps helicopters. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background with hands-on experience in systems engineering, failure analysis, and qualification testing.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) on guns and mounts.
- Perform root cause analysis on failures and identify corrective actions.
- Evaluate developmental designs for reliability and maintainability.
- Develop test plans/reports and conduct qualification testing of new systems, guns, or upgrades.
- Review and validate maintenance and operating procedures for completeness.
- Establish inspection procedures in accordance with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) practices.
- Develop, review, and implement approved Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
- Collaborate with design teams to develop and evaluate system upgrades.
- Review technical drawings and assign appropriate quality assurance provisions.
Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Systems, or related engineering field preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted for education.
- Engineer II: Typically 3+ years of experience in an engineering or systems engineering role.
- Engineer III: Typically 7+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated subject matter expertise.
- Strong foundation in mechanical design principles, including:
- - Material failure analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) interpretation.
- - Corrosion prevention methods and surface treatments.
- - Fastener selection, torque calculation, and pre-loading concepts.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
- Strong documentation and technical writing skills.
- *Candidate must be able to pass the Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA&E) screening and obtain an explosive handling certification.*
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with NAVAIR processes, including the flight clearance process.
- Experience with Windchill PLM and Creo modeling software.
- Understanding of short recoil-operated automatic weapons.
- Military experience, particularly in aviation-related fields.
- Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity qualification standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs to chest height.
- Must pass AA&E screening and be eligible for explosive handling certification.
- Comfortable working in both office and hands-on technical environments.
Travel:
Occasional CONUS travel may be required.
