Job Summary:

The SVP, Core Laboratory Operations role will be a high-profile executive and extended member of the Senior Management Team responsible for overseeing laboratory operations and the order-to-cash value streams across PathGroup's flagship laboratory in Nashville, TN, as well as numerous hospital labs that are supported and connected to Nashville laboratory operations. This position leads operations for over $400M of PathGroup's annual revenue and supports a wide range of medical diagnostic testing, including Clinical Diagnostics, Anatomic Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Molecular Pathology. This leader will inspire a high-performing culture to drive operational excellence and best-in-class execution of EHS, quality, service, cost efficiency and technology leadership across operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct leadership and P&L oversight of laboratory operations in Nashville, as well as numerous hospital labs that are supported and connected to Nashville laboratory operations.
  • Comprehensive oversight of operating mechanisms and operational metrics for these locations supporting best-in-class results in Safety, Quality, Service, Cost and Cash.
  • Supporting operational due-diligence and acquisition integration for future M&A opportunities.
  • Ensuring successful adherence to policies, procedures, objectives, and initiatives for Nashville laboratory operations.
  • Continued deployment of digital pathology processes and capital assets in line with the enterprise-wide strategy.
  • Efficient use of capital through rigorous prioritization and maximizing the effectiveness of equipment investments across PathGroup's Nashville lab operations and the numerous hospital labs under PathGroup management.
  • Streamlining and optimizing methods and processes to ensure operations occur in an efficient manner, while ensuring other factors, such as risk and business continuity are addressed.
  • Analyzing industry trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply base issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and utilize emerging opportunities.
  • Cross-functional collaboration to support the needs of operations and to ensure the operational requirements of customer needs are met.
  • Highlight Create a short-term and long-term strategic plan to drive top-line growth and margin accretion across operations. Ensure flexibility to grow both organically and inorganically.
  • Collaborate with PathGroup leadership and others to identify and communicate barriers or gaps to effectively running laboratory operations.
  • Measure and optimize key performance indicators to improve costs and reduce defects through advanced financial analysis and trending. Develop standard operating mechanisms to enhance performance visibility and execution.
  • Function as a change agent through process improvement opportunities, leadership, and strategic vision. Create an Operational Excellence culture across Laboratory Operations.
  • Advance the technology leadership of Digital Pathology in line with the overall company strategy and in a way that drives efficiency and a competitive advantage in service/TAT all the way through diagnosis reporting.
  • Communicate performance, plans and progress with executive leadership on a regular basis. Consistently deliver a clear communications program regarding priorities/initiatives to specific employee audiences on an ongoing, proactive basis.
  • Provide leadership and supervise/manage assigned teams, make decisions, solve problems, develop, and document procedures, and conduct and attend meetings that require a definitive interpretation and execution of PathGroup policies and standards.
  • Sponsor technology and system initiatives to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance data analytics capabilities, including collaboration with IT teams and vendors to select and implement appropriate systems.
  • Author new or updated policies to direct compliant and optimal practices for the PathGroup organization.
  • Manage the employee hiring process including interviewing prospective employees, developing performance expectations, identifying essential functions and knowledge, skills and abilities required for applicable positions.
  • Manage employee performance by coaching, counseling, motivating, and evaluating employees on a continual basis.
  • Ensure effective employee relations by sustaining an ethical, non-discriminatory, and safe work environment and establishing effective communication lines and methods. Identify and solve employee problems, manage conflict, and respond to grievances as needed.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
  • Become familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the privacy and Security policies.


Requirements / Key Competencies
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field from an accredited college is required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of job-related experience in laboratory and/or MedTech operations. Knowledge in Clinical Lab Testing, Anatomic Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Molecular Pathology operations and processes is preferred.
  • Location in Nashville, TN.
  • Must be able to accommodate a moderate amount of travel (25%).

  • Ability to motivate cross-functional teams, former business owners, physicians, and site operations leaders to meet PathGroup's overall objectives.
  • Outstanding emotional intelligence and communication skills.

  • Deep knowledge of laboratory operations, operational excellence, lean continuous improvement and industry trends across laboratory diagnostics.
