Associate Electrical Engineer - Maintenance & Operations (K-12 School Projects)

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

KKCS is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer to support the school facility Maintenance & Operations division in A/E Design Services. The selected candidate will provide electrical engineering support on school construction and modernization projects across the district. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on public education infrastructure in the greater Los Angeles area. The position is full-time, contract, W2, and onsite in Los Angeles, CA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop electrical design documents and coordinate with in-house staff and task order engineers.
  • Review construction drawings for compliance with District standards and electrical codes.
  • Provide construction administration support and assist in resolving field issues related to code compliance.
  • Prepare electrical estimates and reports to support project budgeting and funding requests.
  • Assist in defining electrical scope and participate in DSA virtual backcheck appointments.
  • Visit school sites to verify as-built conditions when documentation is unavailable or incorrect.
  • Coordinate with utility providers and engineering teams for power upgrades and service design approvals.
  • Support Asset Management in defining and approving electrical scopes for modernization projects.
  • Research and implement new electrical code requirements and update design standards accordingly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized college or university.


Required Experience (one of the following):

Option 1:
  • At least 3 years of full-time paid professional electrical design experience in a public agency, K-12 school construction, or large capital commercial projects. Must include:
  • K-12 school project experience within the last 5 years.
  • Power design experience (low/medium voltage) - 1-2 years.
  • Low voltage systems: fire alarm, PA, telecom, security, data - 1-2 years.
  • DSA processes: submittals, backchecks, addenda, change documentation.
  • AutoCAD experience (version 2020 or newer) - 1-2 years.

OR

Option 2:

  • Valid California Professional Electrical Engineer license (PE).


Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with LAUSD design standards.
  • Strong communication and coordination abilities.
  • Experience with school modernization and public-sector capital programs.
