Job Description Summary
The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) is housed in the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost at the University of Maryland. This team supports community engaged teaching and research, campus-community collaborations, and serves to build, strengthen, and amplify the university's community facing efforts. Supporting faculty engagement, community partnership building, and the realization of University of Maryland as the nation's first Do Good Campus, CCE provides leadership to ensure ethical and effective community engagement directed toward social good and social impact remains central to our institutional priorities.
Position Description
This position works with the Associate Provost to shape strategic engagement across the University's colleges and schools and in/with the community to develop and sustain a culture of ethical community engagement throughout our collective teaching and research partnership work. This involves collaborating with instructors and researchers, curricular units, research centers, and other university and community stakeholders to ensure that engagement opportunities have the appropriate infrastructural support, those engaging in them have the professional development to be ethical and effective stewards of our values and commitments, and we conduct and utilize assessments to understand and improve our engaged teaching and research efforts. This role contributes to capacity-building initiatives including awareness and recognition of campus-wide engaged scholarship, cultivation of collaborations across the campus and with external partner organizations, and the advancement and promotion of outreach and engagement programs. Due to the dynamic nature of community engagement, this position requires an ability to attend meetings on- and off-campus including occasional evening and weekend events.
The Director of Faculty Engagement also works with the Associate Provost to lead the Center's work to support and connect faculty, campus partners, and community partners around their community-engaged research interests, including researching and identifying opportunities for resource development and enhancement useful to implementing community engagement efforts. The Director will also facilitate networks amongst relevant audiences to develop scholarship on the impacts of community engagement important to advancing the University of Maryland as a leader in innovative community engaged teaching and research. Essential to the role of the Director is an understanding of community engagement in higher education and experience in developing and implementing mechanisms and strategies to enhance and encourage faculty participation in community-engaged efforts. As such, the Director of Faculty Engagement, alongside the CCE team, is responsible for implementing the vision for University of Maryland as the nation's first Do Good Campus and ensuring alignment of these efforts with the University's strategic plan Fearlessly Forward.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Ten (10) years of professional community engagement experience. Five (5) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.
Knowledge of budget management.
Knowledge of and experience with project management.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.

Master's degree from an accredited institution in education or other relevant field involving community engagement practices and research
Evidence of substantial (5+ years) professional experience working with community engagement efforts at an institution of higher education.
At least 4 years experience in educational development, including faculty and/or graduate student consultation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Highly developed communication skills as evidenced by an:
-Ability to engage effectively with faculty across various disciplines and community partners from various social issue areas.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within work teams and across units. - Ability to communicate effectively in writing and other media.
Demonstrated success in collaborating with faculty to develop, implement and assess community-engaged teaching and research initiatives.
Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
A record of excellence in the design, facilitation, and assessment of workshops varying in format and length.
Deep knowledge of community engagement in higher education and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
Demonstrated effectiveness in supervision, team leadership, and budget management; prior supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral or other terminal degree from an accredited institution
Demonstrated evidence of effective campus-community collaboration through implementation of community-engaged or centered teaching and/or research
Familiarity with local, regional, and national organizations and publication outlets for civic and community engagement efforts
The ability to work in a fast-paced environment transversing urban, suburban, and rural communities
Experience with or knowledge of volunteer management platforms (e.g., Salesforce, give pulse, and/or Collaboratory)
