The Test Engineer III is responsible for testing and validation of new embedded microprocessor based electronic control designs and the support of contract manufacturers building controls for Rheem HVAC and water heating products including test requirements, test fixture design, component qualification, and life cycle support. Will work to improve Design For Manufacturing and Design For Test of controls within Rheem. This is a key position on the electronic controls team within Rheem's Advanced Technology Integration organization, providing advanced technologies and systems solutions for Rheem's Water Heating, Air Conditioning, Raypak, HTPG, Eemax, Friedrich, Nortek, Intergas and IBC business units.

This position will serve our Enterprise Division, located in Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid).

Responsibilities

  • Work with systems engineering, product engineering, and marketing to develop verification and validation requirements for specific HVAC and water heating applications.
  • Manage large scale product testing projects from product concept through to production.
  • Work with cross functional teams through direct interactions and team meetings in developing and translating new concepts into applications.
  • Create and publish professional test plans and test reports.
  • Design and create automated test fixtures using CAD and LabVIEW.
  • Develop performance and qualification test methods, coordinate the implementation of experiments, and evaluate test results. participate in formal design reviews of electronic controls requirements, schematics, layouts, as well as FMEA, DFM, DFT, and other related analyses.
  • Support the review and release of formal requirements, design, and qualification documentation.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to prepare for product builds, including review of design documentation and testing requirements and overseeing technical aspects of qualification builds.
  • Work with manufacturers to develop test methods for Rheem control products.
  • Evaluate manufacturing systems and test methods to assure quality construction of Rheem controls.
  • Continue to develop professionally. Represent company as requested in technical societies and keep the company advised of pertinent developments, new concepts, and opportunities.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in testing.
  • Experience managing validation and verification test projects .
  • Experience in the design and supervision of the construction of test fixtures for new design concepts.
  • Expert knowledge of controls manufacturing and manufacturing quality risk mitigation.
  • Demonstrable expertise and experience in root cause analysis.
  • Able to work successfully with multiple departments such as R&D, marketing, manufacturing, service engineering, suppliers, and customers
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods and/or Design-of-Experiments (DOE).
  • Familiarity with wireless testing methodology.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • Experience building automated test stations with LabView programming.
  • Experience utilizing a formal Product Development Process.
  • Experience performing conducted and radiated emissions and susceptibility EMC testing and analyzing test results.
  • Knowledge of software architecture and programming for embedded microprocessor-based electronic controls.
