JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Director of Engineering will be responsible for overseeing multiple construction projects from the design phase through completion to include piers, berths, car wash facilities, pilings, etc. This position is also responsible for the direction, oversight, and development of the Engineering Department.

This position can be located in Baltimore, MD or Jacksonville, FL.

Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the Engineering team
  • Collaborate with terminal managers, customers, and other parties for facility needs in new construction and upgrades
  • Assist in Development of Scope of Work Packages, Invitations to Bid, Bid Scoring and Awarding of Contracts for Projects requiring Contractors/Vendors.
  • Oversee each construction project from the design phase through to completion and manage the life cycle upgrades for all facilities in the AMPORTS portfolio
  • Stay abreast of local legislation that will impact AMPORTS facilities such as rain tax and permitting.
  • Assist in Development of Specifications, Choice and Procurement of Company Equipment and Assets.
  • Oversee the updates of SPCC plans
  • Provide regulatory compliance oversight for all projects, new and upgrade
  • Provide oversight of workplace safety audits and corrective action items
  • Handle all contractor negotiations and bids
  • Manage the budget for all Engineering projects
  • Familiarity with Union Environment and Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct reports.

Work Environment

Well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office, production setting, outdoor/indoor shop environment, or enclosed vehicle with adequate ventilation and protection from extreme weather conditions.

Physical Demands

Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative or production/technical nature. Manual dexterity is sufficient to reach and handle items.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are primarily Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm. This position may require overtime.

Travel

Moderate overnight travel (up to 30%) by land and/or air.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and expertise in the field of Civil and Structural Engineering, Marine and Port facilities. Permitting, excavation and environmental cleanup knowledge required. Strong General Contracting, Construction/Project Management experience Helpful.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to obtain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).

Salary range: $118,707 - $159,079
