Digital Transformation Vice Presidency
The Digital Transformation Vertical Vice Presidency was established on July 1, 2024, and will guide World Bank Group efforts to establish the foundations of a digital economy, build and enhance digital and data infrastructure, ensure cybersecurity and data privacy for institutions, businesses, and citizens, and advance digital government services. Digital technologies, including AI and data, present a unique opportunity to accelerate development. The Digital Transformation Vertical will have the critical mission of delivering on this development promise. The Digital Vice Presidency and its global and regional teams will support client countries in building the foundational and cross-cutting elements of digital transformation through two engagement pillars, six business lines, and multiple cross-cutting areas:
Digital Core: Building digital infrastructure through broadband network, affordable devices; Enhancing data infrastructure including data centers, cloud solutions and data governance; Enabling AI and cutting-edge technology applications; and Protecting institutions, businesses, and citizens through cybersecurity, data protection & privacy, trust services as well as online safety.
Digital Use: Supporting the Regions and the Verticals of People, Prosperity, Planet, and Infrastructure in the digitalization efforts of clients through Digital Government (digital public infrastructure, digital government services, and digital literacy and training), Digital Economy (national ICT planning, ICT industry and jobs, and smart infra and industry) and Digital Society (digital school, digital health, etc.).
Both pillars will be the channels through which the Vertical will support World Bank achieving its objectives in cross-cutting areas like jobs and skills, climate and green, fragility, conflict and violence, and gender and inclusion.
This Digital Specialist will report directly to the Director of Digital Core and will be a key member of the Director's Front Office.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Digital Specialist is responsible for the following areas:
Coordination
Serve as a key coordination point for the Director's engagements with regional teams, corporate units, and other GPs, ensuring timely flow of information and operational alignment across the Digital Transformation agenda.
Support the Director's internal engagement with Digital Transformation VPU leadership and regional digital coordinators, including organizing regular check-ins and synthesizing key updates.
Track and follow up on institutional initiatives, corporate deliverables, and cross-cutting engagements led by the Director's office.
Provide operational and coordination support to the Digital GCP and other strategic initiatives, including organizing consultations, compiling institutional inputs, and tracking progress across participating teams.
Help consolidate lessons learned and feedback from implementation to inform future program enhancements.
Front Office Tasks
Support the Director's preparation for high-level engagements through the development of briefing materials, talking points, and presentation content.
Maintain operational trackers and strategic files to support efficient front office workflow and information flow.
Coordinate responses to corporate requests and institutional reporting requirements.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with communication and knowledge teams to ensure timely and effective dissemination of the Digital Core's strategic initiatives.
Assist in preparing Digital Core's internal communication products such as briefing updates, and knowledge notes.
Support the planning and delivery of internal and external meetings.
Selection Criteria
MA/MS or PhD in International Relations/Public Affairs, Communications, Information Science, Political Science, or other related fields. Advanced degrees in technical areas relevant to digital development are also highly valued.
At least 8 years of experience in operations, strategy, communications, or marketing within finance, intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), or the public and private sectors.
Prior work experience within the World Bank Group (WBG), demonstrating a thorough understanding of its internal policies, systems and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to take personal ownership and accountability to meet deadlines and achieve results, with strong organizational skills.
Understanding of World Bank knowledge products, information management procedures, and practices.
Attention to detail and the ability and willingness to multitask on a variety of activities under deadline pressures.
Interest in digital development/technology, staying up-to-date with current trends, and actively engaging with digital development publications and blogs.
