Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Underwriting leadership team and has an opportunity for a Manager Group Rating. This position will oversee the rating activities for employer groups, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with corporate financial objectives. This role is responsible for developing rating methodologies, managing the automation of rating reports, and conducting concession analysis. The manager will also oversee the strategy for rating positions of key accounts, ensuring that pricing decisions are competitive and aligned with client needs. The manager will serve as a key liaison between Sales, Actuarial, and Underwriting to support effective communication and decision-making. The role requires the ability to analyze complex data and trends, while leading a team to optimize group rating and concession processes.

Compensation

$112,800 - $134,000

Exempt Grade 18
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.


What you'll do

  • Influence strategy around use of rating systems and methods that are financially sound and produce competitive results for employer groups.
  • Create and implement a system to monitor and prioritize rating activities to ensure effective communication with Sales.
  • Oversee the automation of rating reports to streamline processes and reduce manual work, collaborating with the Quality & Systems team.
  • Conduct concession analysis and provide regular insights and recommendations to Sales for strategic decision-making.
  • Provide supporting analytics for Sales to present to employer groups, enhancing the clarity and competitiveness of bids.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, particularly ERISA and ACA, in rating methodologies and group underwriting practices.
  • Manage and optimize the preparation and presentation of rate exhibits.
  • Collaborate with Actuarial and Underwriting teams to optimize group rating methodologies and ensure alignment with corporate objectives.


What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in group rating or actuarial work, preferably in the health insurance industry.
  • Experience in managing team workflows, process improvements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with alternative funding arrangements, health insurance contracts, and rating systems.
  • Ability to work in an office environment and use standard office equipment.
  • Occasional travel may be required for meetings or training.
  • Strong understanding of health insurance rating techniques and actuarial principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple rating activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely completion.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Sales and Actuarial teams.
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance, particularly regarding ERISA, ACA, and health insurance contracts.
  • Ability to lead automation and process improvement initiatives to optimize rating operations.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with a focus on mentoring and developing team members.
