We are looking for an R&D Engineer/Scientist with technical leadership to support the coating, casting, formulation and development of new products that support the Electronic Materials business.
Identifies, assesses and develops scientific concepts and/or technologies to provide solutions to identified problems. Manages scientific, technical, or information projects, overseeing other technical support personnel to accomplish objectives. Provides internal and external technical support in the development and application of products, processing techniques, and resolution of problems.
Capable of supporting multiple programs. Within each of these, there will be multiple product constructions (e.g. product thickness, coating various substrates single & double side coating, multilayer coating etc.). These products are being developed on research assets and scaled to production. The main objective of this role is to work with the team to assist in the progression of products through research, small scale production and full-scale manufacture.

Functional Responsibilities
- Participate on the product development team as a film process engineer. This will include planning, executing, and analyzing frequent trials on the various PI film casting processes. It will require good coordination with the R&D Scientist(s) leading the product development program.
- Contribute to the execution and improvement of the site's safety and Process Safety Management systems.
- Understand the polyimide formulation, slurry dispersions, thermal casting, chemical casting, polymer substrate coating, rheology, drying, web handling and tentering.
- Collaborate with the scientist for the formulation scale-up.
- Implement programs to improve quality and product performance. Utilize Six Sigma methodology where appropriate.
- Develop a data-based understanding of how the formulation and process elements affect product performance at the customer.
- Research novel process development options to solve problems for the product development team that will contribute to the future functionality of the manufacturing site.
- Provide manufacturing inputs for new product / process developments and lead manufacturing evaluations during appropriate phase of new product development.
- Network with development scientists throughout the corporation to use the best available technology and support future product needs.
- Provide on-call support to research or small-scale production coatings.
- Process development leading to the manufacture of high yield, good quality, low cost, and high production uptime products.
- Support business and R&D leadership on the product and process costs estimation.
- Understand the effect of the process on the sustainability metrics.
Requirements
- BS/MS/PhD Degree(s) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience (minimum 3+ years) in web handling and film process technology.
- Experience in process/product development.
- Skilled in Minitab and MS Office.
- Outstanding leadership of teams.
- Experience in project and risk management.
- Six Sigma methodology.
- Self-motivated to identify problems & issues and develop programs to improve.
- Excellent problem-solving ability, and strong interpersonal skills.

- Participation in site safety programs.
- Deliver on research programs and goals on time and on budget.
- Develop as a process engineering resource to contribute to problems in multiple areas of the plant/ company.
- Resolve product technical issues.
