Job Description
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is the agency responsible for regulating for-hire vehicle industries in New York City, including drivers and owners of yellow medallion taxis, green-boro taxis, community car services, black cars (including those booked via smartphone app), certain luxury limousines, commuter vans and paratransit vehicles. These industries serve more than one million passengers each day and are a key component of the City's transportation network.
TLC is seeking a dynamic and motivated attorney to join the Agency and will:
- Coordinate with the Law Department to handle complex litigation, including federal class action litigation or claims involving complex matters. This includes supervising or training attorneys to handle litigation, coordinating discovery requests, compiling documents, and interfacing with Information Technology.
- Supervise the processing of Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, including, supervising and training attorneys and staff to process FOIL requests and prioritizing and managing requests. - Supervising staff in obtaining responsive documents from other parts of the agency, redacting personal and confidential information, and providing responsive documents to the requestors.
- Review and prepare responses to summary suspension adjudications and drug test failures, as well as discretionary revocations.
- Perform legal research and make recommendations to the Agency's General Counsel.
- Other legal tasks, including reviewing and negotiating agreements, drafting rules, advising on legislative and policy initiatives, and other assignments as directed by the Agency's General Counsel.

Qualifications
1. Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.
2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements:
To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
