Job Summary:
The Senior Software Engineer supports the development and maintenance of supply chain systems leveraging AS400 and Synon (CA 2E) technologies. This includes (but is not limited to) warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and other logistics-related applications. The role requires deep technical expertise in legacy system development, software deployment, system configuration, and performance monitoring within the AS400 environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Synon application development and a strong understanding of supply chain business processes. Additionally, this role involves mentoring junior team members and contributing to the modernization and continuous improvement of core supply chain platforms.

- Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud-based or internet-related tools. External Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 7 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or related field
- Experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field
- Experience writing code for moderately complex applications
- Experience with programming languages for online applications, microservices or mobile applications
- Experience designing/building moderately complex applications/automation
- Experience writing automation test or deployment scripts
- Experience creating coding/scripting solutions to fix moderately complex problems
- Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems
- At least 1 year of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
- Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field
- 4+ years of experience as an AS400/Synon Developer or in a similar role.
- Experience in Java is desirable.
- Experience identifying operational issues and implementing strategies to resolve them.
- Strong experience working in an Agile environment, collaborating within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Technical Skills:
-Proficiency in AS400 (IBM iSeries) development, including working with RPG, CL, and DB2 databases.
-Extensive experience with Synon (or CA 2E) for application development and maintenance.
-Familiarity with RPG IV, ILE RPG, SQL/DB2, and Integrated Language Environment (ILE).
-Experience in Java is desirable.
-Experience in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or Retail Supply Chain applications.
-Knowledge of Material Handling solutions integrated with WMS systems.
-Experience in implementing vendor packages and working with vendors on integration solutions.
Development
-Proficiency in software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
-Basic understanding of developing secure, scalable, and high-performance services with technologies like Java, NodeJS, React, JavaScript, SQL, NoSQL, Spring, and Python.
-Some experience with working with modern UI frameworks like React and front-end security best practices.
-Awareness with distributed SQL databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
-Exposure to Enterprise Integration Design patterns for building loosely coupled, resilient systems.
DevOps:
-Understanding of infrastructure components like databases, networking, DNS, cloud services, and containerization.
-Awareness with deployment automation for applications on IaaS and PaaS platforms (Windows or Linux).
-Awareness with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker), and Kubernetes.
-Awareness with GIT workflows and repository management for version control.
-Awareness with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
Data & Analytics:
-Experience with integrating, transforming, and consolidating data from structured and unstructured systems for building analytics solutions.
-Awareness with Azure cloud technologies such as Data Flow, Data Bricks, Azure Synapse, and Azure Analysis Services.
-Awareness with data pipeline tools like Talend, Change Data Capture (CDC), Spark, and Azure APIs.
-Knowledge of reporting tools such as Power BI, Cognos, or Tableau.
-Experience in data classification, naming conventions, and designing DDL for effective data architecture.
