The salary range shared below represents the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. Candidates offered employment will be compensated based on skills, work experience, and education. This position will also qualify for a 14% Tax Sheltered Annuity (TSA) in addition to the base salary.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for leading a
vision toward equity via the effective implementation of standard-based curriculum and instruction to meet District
Progress Measures and Board Goals. The Director is responsible for leading and facilitating a systemic approach
to developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum, assessment, instruction, and professional learning for
both the general education and English Language Learner programs. Guided by the principles of the Iowa
Standards for School Leaders (ISSL) and the district's vision, mission, the Director will provide leadership and
tactical strategies in the development, delivery, and communication of high-quality research-based curriculum and
instruction as measured by its impact on student outcomes. This position requires continuous use of independent
judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Establish and promote high standards and expectations of all students and staff for academic performance,
facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is
shared and supported by the community.
2. Lead a vision toward equity and apply the equity lens to policy, program design, decision- making, and
curriculum development.
3. Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional services and the
related oversight of compliance and accountability measures.
4. Plan and lead professional development of principals focused on instructional leadership and effective
implementation of the district's curriculum and instructional framework.
5. Coach, support, supervise, and evaluate curriculum staff utilizing Iowa Leadership Standards.
6. Maintain and grow current knowledge base related to curriculum design, including knowledge of the Iowa
Core, instruction, and assessment.
7. Facilitate the development of curriculum through course development, unit design and performance- based
assessment.
8. Provide curriculum and instructional support to school leaders in alignment with district priorities and Board
goals.
9. Study, align, evaluate, and recommend the adoption of new instructional materials, methods and programs.
10. Oversee curriculum coordinators with monitoring of budgets for each curriculum area.
11. In collaboration with multiple district departments, design a strategic vision and plan for a personalized and
blended learning model, including protocols and procedures for rigorous and relevant online and blended
models of delivering instruction.
12. Plan, implement and manage the district-wide online course development process, including staff training,
instructional design, and quality of course design reviews.
13. Plan and oversee the implementation of professional development programs relating to best practices in
online teaching, LMS usage, and other academic initiatives.
14. Work closely with the Technology team to ensure seamless connectivity and technical support for LMS.
15. Lead ongoing evaluation and revision of curricular programs, goals, and objectives.
16. Lead in the planning, designing, and scheduling of district professional development opportunities.
17. Collaborate with the district registrar to manage course numbers, credits, and compliance.
18. Collaborate with various departments to provide targeted support to schools.
19. Ensure compliance of academic programs as they relate to state and federal guidelines.
20. Collaborate with and provide support to the Office of Talent and Personnel in their responsibility
areas of BLUE contract, onboarding new teachers, and the Teacher Leadership Compensation
(TLC) grant.
21. Monitor categorical and special programs and grants for school programs.
22. Maintain partnerships with all levels to support and extend K-12 curriculum work.
23. Establish positive and trusting relationships with external partners.
24. Collaborate with multiple departments to support best practices in student assessment, including collection,
analysis, and the communication of progress in student learning.
25. Work in conjunction with the Executive Director to evaluate progress toward district goals and report results
to the Board and community.

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required Experience and Education:
1. Master's degree with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field.
2. Valid Iowa Administrator License
3. Iowa Evaluator Approval
4. Three to Five years of teaching experience

Desired Experience and Education:
1. Experience in school administration.
2. Experience in the design and delivery of professional development.
3. Experience in K-12 ELL programming.

Skills and Abilities:
1.Experience with leadership, supervision, and evaluation of staff.
2.Knowledge of current educational research relative to curriculum, instruction, and school improvement.
3.Expertise around virtual learning and project management.
4.Knowledge of PreK-12 educational programs
5.Proficiency in analyzing and communicating data.
6.Strong oral and written communication skills.
7.Competence working in a culturally diverse environment, or the willingness to attain these skills.
