The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Alaska Marine Highway System is looking for a Port Engineer to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What you will be doing:
Port Engineers manage the day-to-day engine department operations and maintenance, including facilities and personnel, to ensure vessel system reliability and efficiency. They maintain the vessels for the safety of the passengers and crew in accordance with all applicable regulations and safety rules. They schedule the vessel maintenance for the vessel as well as direct the routine vessel maintenance programs.
In this role, you will supervise and provide leadership to licensed and unlicensed personnel, providing guidance and direction. You will oversee vessel maintenance and scheduled emergency repairs. The position is vital to AMHS's ability to successfully maintain vessel safety, schedules, and budgetary requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a USCG Marine Engineering/Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) license or endorsement (active or in continuity) as Chief Engineer (motor vessel), Unlimited.
OR
Possession of a license or MMC endorsement (active or in continuity) as a First, Second, or Third Assistant Engineer (motor vessel), Unlimited, with at least one year of licensed marine engineering experience.
OR
Military experience as a minimum of Chief Petty Officer (E-7) or equivalent in other branches; to include project management experience in engineering or engineering management including, but not limited to, construction, repair, or conversion; systems and equipment design.
OR
Shipyard management experience at Ship Superintendent level or above.
Special Note: A Certificate of Continuity endorsement allows an individual to keep a license, but it does not allow the legal operation of vessels under the license authority. Licenses are typically placed into continuity when an individual is not actively sailing or working using the license.
