(HGL) has a position open for a Site Safety and Health Officer III to support HGL's ongoing project in Camden County, NJ. As a Site Safety and Health Officer III, you will work with our Senior Site Safety and Health Officer and the rest of the high performing HGL Team ensuring safe performance of environmental remediation activities.
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Typical work hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00am-5:30pm, some Friday work may be required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for working closely with and supporting Corporate Safety Managers, Program Managers, Project Managers, Site Supervisors and Quality Control Officers in coordinating, documenting, and enforcing safety and health for environmental remediation projects.

The salary range for this position ranges from $$69,960-$104,939. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for working closely with and supporting Corporate Safety Managers, Program Managers, Project Managers, Site Supervisors and Quality Control Officers in coordinating, documenting, and enforcing safety and health for environmental remediation projects.
The Safety and Health Officer III responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supports HGL Corporate Safety Group developing processes and procedures to enhance HGL safety.
- Develop project planning documents and support planning of projects to ensure successful execution.
- Provide EHS & risk assessment support for numerous projects.
- Coordinate project and safety team staffing.
- Ensures complete and correct field execution of S&H plans, to include the performance of required monitoring, work practices and hazard evaluations.
- Coordinate's accident prevention by providing oversight of work activities and awareness of all site operations,
- Conducts daily safety and health inspections, maintains deficiency log, responsible for daily identification of hazards and recommended corrective actions, maintains hazard communication program with safety data sheets, and
- Ensures that all onsite personnel have demonstrated understanding of S&H Plans, conducts onsite safety meetings, reviews S&H documents for required updates, implements planned onsite contingency and emergency response program.
- Reporting of safety observations and compliance with contract documents.
- Review and understanding of project specifications, drawings, and designs.
- Understanding of remediation construction site health & safety (H&S) hazards.
Required Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- A minimum of four (4) years of directly applicable experience performing the onsite functions of Construction Site Safety including a minimum of two (2) years of experience serving on environmental remediation projects.
- Experience with Air Quality, Hazardous Waste, Universal Waste, Drinking Water, Industrial Wastewater, Stormwater, Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures: compliance, agency relations, inspections, training, reporting, recordkeeping, permitting, and sampling.
- Experience with demolition, excavation, grading, sampling, investigations & large site remediation projects.
- Experience in soil, vapor, and groundwater remediation systems.
- Experience with Natural Resources, Endangered Species, Wildlife, and Wetlands.
- Excellent communication and organization; working with and maintaining confidential information.
- Strong technical writing and documentation experience.
- Perform corporate safety audits.
- Managing work under H&S requirements; performing daily checks to ensure control activities, including testing/compliance and documenting all results.
- Working knowledge of Federal and state occupational regulations.
- Experience implementing safety and health procedures in the environmental field.
- Construction industry safety experience involving hazardous waste, excavations, landfills, building abatement and D&D.
- Training and experience in exposure monitoring/air sampling and PPE selection and use. Air monitoring experience required.
- Working knowledge of Federal and State occupational health and safety regulations.
- Experience on projects with environmental construction of earth support systems, dewatering of excavations, material handling and transport, water treatment, infrastructure installation and repair, and building abatement and demolition.
- Familiarity with large construction project sites including experience working around heavy equipment.
- Prepare daily reports documenting activities and findings.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to comfortably engage with varying levels of leadership, RA Contractors, subcontractors, internal and external stakeholders, etc.
- Strong understanding of industry experience/background.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software, specifically in Excel and Word.
- Ability to work in a group setting with corporate, project, and technical management staff.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
- Ability to prepare, maintain, and manage detailed site inspections, personnel safety records, and field logs. Demonstrated proficiency working with exposure monitoring instruments including PIDs, atmospherics, noise, lead, and fugitive dust.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training and current 8 hr. refresher.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification.
- Training and experience in exposure monitoring/air sampling and PPE selection and use.
- Current CPR/First Aid training certificate.
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT - Preferred, not required
- Working knowledge of USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual (EM 385-1-1).
- 8- hour OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor Training
- Excavation competent person certification
- Fall protection competent person certification
- Confined space supervisor
- Rigging training
- Experience working with USACE and EPA clients
- Experience working on radioactive waste cleanup projects where level C protective equipment was required.
