Miles & Stockbridge is seeking a strategic and relationship driven Director of Legal Recruitment to lead the firm's Legal Recruiting team and strengthen our attorney recruiting efforts. The person in this role will develop the vision and execute strategies to attract Partner, Associate, and Counsel attorneys. They will also oversee the design and execution of a best-in-class Summer Associate Program. The successful candidate will understand the law firm landscape in the mid-Atlantic region and have demonstrated ability to build strong and effective internal and external stakeholder relationships. Director of Legal Recruitment Responsibilities:
  • Manage the full lifecycle recruitment process of lateral partners and groups.
  • Oversee candidate sourcing via search firms, social media, internet searches, referrals, and informational interviews to attract and hire top-notch talent.
  • Interview candidates, negotiate, draft, and extend offers, perform due diligence and oversee the disposition of candidates in the applicant tracking system.
  • Conduct due diligence on candidates, including obtaining and reviewing lateral partner questionnaire and analyzing candidate metrics.
  • Partner with the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer and Chief of Legal Operations in vetting books for lateral candidates.
  • Support the Hiring Principal and Chief Financial Officer in constructing financial projections and compensation models.
  • Partner with Conflicts Counsel regarding conflicts for new hires.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with search firms, professional recruiting organizations, and career services professionals at law schools.
  • Devise growth strategies with Board Members, Chief Business Development Officer and Practice Group Leaders to acquire firms, practice groups, and partner-level lawyers.
  • Work with the Firm's Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on the firm's diversity pipeline programs and initiatives relating to the recruitment and retention of diverse lawyers.
  • Manage lateral onboarding and integration.
  • Oversee attorney orientation and collaborate with marketing for onboarding of all attorneys.
  • Lead associate recruiting and direct hiring and planning of the summer associate program, in collaboration with a manager and coordinator.

Director of Legal Recruitment Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience recruiting partners and/or practice groups.
  • Law or other professional services firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Must exercise the highest level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Experience in working with recruiting databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely and effectively with Firm and Administrative Department Leaders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to solve problems, use sound judgement and discretion.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Works well under pressure and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Human Resources Information System functions, such as LawCruit Applicant Tracking and Performance Management.

Miles & Stockbridge offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including PTO, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401K, Firm sponsored Memberships (i.e. Peloton, Norton LifeLock), and more.

The pay range for this position is $144,800 - $213,400. The pay range provided is in compliance with state, city, or local employment laws and applies to this location only. Actual pay for this position will be determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, current market data, and business needs.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position or sit for prolonged periods and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is frequently required to perform light work that includes lifting and moving objects up to 10 pounds.
