Job Summary:

Corporate lawyer responsible for: (i) Company-wide management and oversight of land and land legal operations and (ii) Company-wide corporate legal operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Divisions:
  • Division Representation. Assist Divisions with various legal needs with focus on land contracts, deal structure, risk issues and M/I compliance matters. Draft and/or review, depending on Divisional needs and circumstances, various real estate documents including land acquisition agreements, development agreements, easements, CCR's, etc. Assists with the design, development, and implementation of key processes and procedures for land acquisition, disposition, and development across the Company.
  • Advise Land Committee. Advise the land committee regarding the deal structure and risks related to the land contracts.
  • Title Review. Although title review is primarily the responsibility of outside counsel and M/I's paralegals, assistance with some title issues is necessary from time to time.
  • Risk Management. Assist in the management of litigation and claims; assist as necessary in resolving homeowner and contractor disputes.

Corporate:
  • Leases. Represent company in leasing needs, especially related to division office requirements.
  • Disclosures. Oversee company compliance initiatives regarding disclosures, especially related to transactions with homebuying customers.
  • Corporate Governance. Assist with corporate governance projects and issues.
  • Training. Assist with training initiatives.
  • Misc. Corporate Projects. Assist with various corporate initiatives and projects (e.g., oversight of mechanic's lien compliance; warranty and licensing, etc.).
  • Regulatory. Provide oversight in connection with regulatory issues involving company, especially related to HR matters and affiliated mortgage finance and title operations.

Requirements

Minimum Education Experience:
  • Graduate of an accredited law school with at least 7-9 years of experience.
  • Admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio or ability to gain corporate counsel designation with an active law license from another state.
  • Expertise in a breadth of legal concepts, practices, and procedures including real estate transactions and contract management.
  • Knowledge of residential home building industry.


Work Conditions and Physical Requirements:

In person 5 days a week, general office environment with travel to and activities performed at division locations as necessary.
