Job Description
The Energy Security, Resilience, and Integration Operations group is seeking an Area Work Supervisor (AWS).
The AWS serves as the main liaison between ESIF users, Energy Security, Resilience and Integration (ESRI) Research Operations and matrixed support organizations. The AWS will oversee and maintain awareness of all activities in the assigned work areas to ensure all research and operations activities are coordinated and successfully enabled within applicable policies and procedures. This role is crucial to the support of safe research operations by ensuring that all activities within the assigned areas are evaluated and executed within the Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) safety envelope.
Essential Responsibilities:
Oversees and maintains awareness of all laboratory activities in assigned spaces including research, maintenance, modification, construction, audits, assessments, surveys, tours, visits, drills, and exercises.
Routinely informs the ESRI Research Operations Manager and other team members of area status. Weekly operational support coordination, planning, tracking, and communicating at relevant meetings. Ensure the relevant sections of the Plan of the Week (POW) dashboard are correct and accurate.
Supports emergency response as a member of the ESIF Internal Response Group by responding to lab alarms as needed and coordinating with the ESRI Research Operations Manager to ensure proper corrective actions and acknowledgement.
Fosters a culture of continuous learning by sharing lessons learning, best practices, and embracing NREL's 8 Safety Culture Principles.
Deconflicts lab space requests by developing and presenting solutions to ESRI Research Operations Manager and ESIF users and their leadership.
Deconflicts space requests at the worker level through diplomatic discussions and creative problem solving prior to elevating.
Assists researchers and external users with planning and implementation of their activities, providing input on the ESIF capabilities, capacities, rules, requirements, and controls credited with preventing/mitigating hazardous conditions in the ESIF Hazard Analysis Review (HAR).
Helps researchers and external users determine whether their proposed activity (or change to an activity) is within the facility safety envelope and how the existing lab space could be modified to support new research equipment/activities.
Works closely with research team members to enable project success by coordinating required resources from ESRI Research Operations, NREL Mission Support organizations (e.g. Site Ops, ESH&Q, ITS), and/or external contractors and partners.
Responsive in answering questions, addressing issues, and providing necessary information. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to prioritize major objectives on short notice as work evolves.
Additional Responsibilities:
Track calibration history for instrumentation within assigned laboratory areas and ensure proper calibration is maintained.
Work with the ESIF Facility Quality Manager (FQM), Environment, Safety and Health Office staff, and management to report/screen/execute corrective actions for safety-related events.
Lead quarterly safety inspections for labs, report findings to lab users/management, and log in software tracker.
Perform required training on schedule.
Maintain excellent housekeeping in labs and supported areas,
Continuously optimize space and utilization of research capabilities by collaborating with research and support organizations to develop, communicate, implement, and track creative space use solutions.
Basic Qualifications
Relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and application of project management principles, concepts, practices and standards. Full knowledge of technical field and related disciplines. Very good interpersonal, conflict resolution, teaming and communication skills.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE (Q) Security Clearance. Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen. See DOE O 472.2A for additional information.

Preferred Qualifications
Able to obtain SCI access. SCI access may require a polygraph examination. Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE O 472.2A for additional information.
Familiarity and training in Lock Out-Tag Out.
NREL Qualified Electrical Worker, or comparable experience with relevant electrical codes and standards (NFPA 70/70E/79).
Experience and training with mechanical material handling, hoisting and rigging, crane lifts, personnel lift operation, and/or forklift operation.

Job Profile: Project Manager II / Annual Salary Range: $74,900 - $123,600
