GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for student learning and performance, instructional leadership and supervision, coordination of staff development, fostering parent, community and overall stakeholder involvement and support, direct evaluation and/or approval of all staff evaluations, and student safety and well being.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Significant knowledge with federal and state laws governing the education of all students and students with disabilities. Exceptional verbal, written, and technical communication skills. Familiarity and proficiency using and managing Microsoft office products (i.e., word, excel, outlook, email, database, etc.). Exceptional organizational skills and time management skills. Excellent diplomacy skills in managing difficult people and difficult situations. Significant analytical and interpretive skills with regard to educational law governing student with disabilities. Excellent knowledge of the processes related to effective teaching and learning. Strong supervisory and decision-making skills. Ability to manage crises situations effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED: Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in supervision and administration. At least five years of successful experience, three years at a supervisory level with preference given to experience at the middle school level.
PREFERRED: Doctorate in Administration/Supervision. Management of instruction in relation to Virginia's Standard of Learning program.

WORK SCHEDULE: 12 months; 8 hours per day; 261 days/year
PAYGRADE: 23

May require climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Work is typically performed in a school setting, including offices, classrooms, cafeteria and recreational areas. May require long periods of walking, sitting or standing. Requires exposure to outdoor environment which may include inclement weather. Daily liaison activity throughout the school building and grounds. Daily contact with students, teachers, school and county administration, parents and the community. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.

- Observe and evaluate instruction in Grades 6-8
- Implements curriculum and establishes educational objectives consistent with division goals
- Evaluates grading policies and student progress with members of the staff
- Coordinates the use of subject matter specialists, resource teachers, and other resource personnel
- Assign administrative team duties/provides feedback and evaluate performance
- Develop and implement professional goals aligned with school improvement plan
- Attend special education meetings, child study and eligibility
- Meet with PTA executive board. Works with PTA to coordinate parent/student/community functions
- Attend department meetings
- Coordinate, lead, and participate in staff development
- Ensure efficient and productive scheduling of instructional time and of students
- Oversee all disciplinary consequences in accordance with the code of student conduct
- Ensure compliance with all HCPS policies and aligned state and federal mandates and regulations
- Provide ongoing communication via email, newsletter, etc. to all key stakeholders, including staff
- Continually reinforces and articulate school session and vision
- Check and approve specific written communication from the school to the home
- Interact, counsel, problem solve with students, staff, and parents
- Ensure consistent and effective crisis planning, meetings, and specific drills
- Facilitate the school improvement process
- Approve purchase orders/purchases, field trips, staff absences, professional conferences, etc.
- Attend county planning and principal meetings
- Attend extracurricular activities
- Perform related work as required
