As the Director, External Communications at Allison Transmission, you will have a unique opportunity to lead global external marketing and communications initiatives. This role offers the chance to lead a dedicated team and third-party agencies, ensuring that Allison's brand and message are consistently communicated with excellence, and continuing to strengthen Allison's industry leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead media relations strategies for Allison, ensuring flawless execution and impactful visibility.
- Own the content, management, and maintenance of our corporate website, delivering a seamless and engaging user experience.
- Manage and enforce adherance to corporate brand guidelines, ensuring consistency across all external communications globally.
- Collaborate with external media and branding partners to successfully implement our communication strategies.
- Own and manage Allison's global corporate press release process
- Develop social media strategies and policies to enhance our digital presence
- Manage and develop processes for all digital assets, maintaining a comprehensive and organized digital asset library.
- Work cross-functionally with business leaders to develop key branding and public relations messages that resonate with our target audiences.
- Develop and oversee processes to effectively communicate with all external collaborators, including investors, media, , customers, distributors, and more.
- Develop processes and talent resources for strategic level presentations, up to and including Board of Directors and external executives, ensuring clarity and consistency.
- Develop and implement a departmental supporting both organizational and departmental objectives.
- Lead business process improvement initiatives to optimize processes, driving continuous improvement.
- Coordinate the development and compliance of all external-facing remarks by Allison representatives at external functions and engagements.
- Govern the digital assets library for Allison Transmission's brand, products, and associated wordmarks and trademarks, ensuring accurate use and compliance.
- Lead enterprise wide Crisis Communications Council.
- Hire, lead, and manage a dynamic team, encouraging an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
- Monitor, evaluate, and provide regular feedback on employee growth, offering mentoring for development and success.
- Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives to maintain a positive and motivated workforce.

- Advanced computer and application skills including Microsoft Office suite, Salesforce CRM platform, Asana, BusinessWire/Cision, Bynder/Webdam, Falcon, Sharpspring, Sociuu and data and survey tools such as Qualtrics and ThinkCell.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or Marketing
- Passport enabling global travel, or ability to procure a passport within three months of commencement in role.
- MBA
- IABC's Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP), IABC's Accredited Business Communicator (ABC), and PRSA's Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC) certification(s)
- 10+ years of experience, with at least three years in a communications and public relations leadership role
- 10+ years of prior experience leading a team of direct reports
- B2B marketing
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle industry
- Experience managing and developing personnel
- Experience developing and managing a budget
- Global experience or a global perspective
- Additional language skills beyond English
- Domestic and global travel will occasionally be required for this role
- Travel demands are estimated at 10-15%
