Job Title: Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning

Terms and Conditions: 12-month position.

OPRF - WHO WE ARE...
Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, Ill., a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 75 clubs and activities, and 29 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94% graduation rate.

Oak Park and River Forest are communities that highly value diversity. Qualifications
  • M.A. in educational leadership or closely related field required; Ed.D. / Ph.D. desirable.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with Principal endorsement required, Superintendent endorsement strongly preferred.
  • Illinois State Board of Education issued teacher evaluator designation.
  • Successful teaching experience including a comprehensive understanding of classroom practice at the secondary school level.
  • Successful administrator experience, preferably as a building principal
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with diverse student populations

  • Commitment to eliminating systemic obstacles for all students

  • Position Summary:
    The Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning is the chief administrator in charge of all curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Provides leadership in the ongoing development, improvement, and assessment of the District's curriculum program, professional development, and overall student learning to meet the academic and socio-emotional needs of students. As a member of the District Leadership Team, oversees the transformative teaching and learning and holistic education components of the strategic plan and works closely with other cabinet members to align all district systems, policies, and procedures in support of our strategic vision of becoming an ever-improving model of equity and excellence that will enable all students to achieve their full potential. The Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning supervises and evaluates the Director of Student Learning, and the Division Heads.

    Essential Functions:
  • Oversees all curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices in the District, including
    • coordination of the curriculum evaluation and revision process, including the course proposal, academic catalog, and textbook selection process.
    • oversight and support for divisional curriculum work including summer curriculum projects.
  • In collaboration with Division Heads, oversees the Teacher Collaboration Teams (TCTs).
  • Provides oversight for teacher evaluations and serves on the District Performance Evaluation (PERA) committee.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director of Equity and Student Success, the Manager of Data Systems, and Coordinator of Learning Analytics to monitor student outcomes.
  • Leads the design and implementation of professional development for all faculty and staff, including, but not limited toTeacher Collaboration
    • Divisional PD experiences
    • Program-specific PD
    • Institute and Staff Development Days
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources about:
    • staffing projections and recommendations for faculty positions
    • development and scheduling of administrator academies
    • school calendar development
  • Serves as a district leadership team member by actively participating in and contributing to the leadership team meetings and initiatives.
  • Oversees the management of federal and state entitlement grants - ESSA, CTEI, Perkins.
  • Assists families and counselors in facilitating alternative educational placements when appropriate.
  • Supervises and evaluates Division Heads and Director of Student Learning
  • Performs other such duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
