The Role We are seeking a talented UX/UI Developer who can create exceptional user experiences for our federal and commercial clients. This role combines creative design thinking with technical implementation skills to develop intuitive, accessible, and visually appealing digital interfaces. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate user needs and business requirements into engaging and functional user experiences.

Key Responsibilities User Experience Design
  • Create user-centered designs by understanding business requirements, user feedback, and research findings
  • Develop wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for web and mobile applications
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to inform design decisions
  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards within the organization
  • Create comprehensive and reusable design systems including style guides and component libraries
  • Analyze user feedback and activity metrics to identify areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify UX problems and devise elegant solutions

UI Development
  • Implement responsive designs and translate UI/UX designs into functional code with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Build reusable front-end components and libraries for future use
  • Optimize web applications for maximum speed and scalability
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs while maintaining visual consistency
  • Collaborate with back-end developers to integrate UI components with server-side logic
  • Work with modern JavaScript frameworks and libraries (React, Angular, Vue.js, etc.)
  • Implement accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG) in all developed interfaces

Design Collaboration
  • Work closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements
  • Contribute to team and client meetings to provide UX/UI expertise and share design decisions
  • Present and defend design decisions with clear rationale and user-centered thinking
  • Incorporate feedback from stakeholders while maintaining design integrity
  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and emerging technologies in UX/UI design
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies
  • Mentor junior designers and provide constructive feedback on design work

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Web Design, Digital Media, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in UX/UI design and front-end development
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating UX/UI design skills and front-end development capabilities
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch
  • Advanced skills in HTML5, CSS3 (including preprocessors like SASS/LESS), and JavaScript
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js)
  • Knowledge of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and Section 508 compliance
  • Experience with user research methods and usability testing
  • Familiarity with design systems and component libraries
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain design decisions
  • Experience working in Agile development environments
  • Understanding of federal government requirements and processes preferred
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must be located in the Washington DC Metro Area

Work Location: Hybrid (Rockville, MD up to 3 days per week)
