Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to lead the procurement and logistics efforts at our Spring, Texas manufacturing site. This senior-level role reports directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for meeting all objectives that involve purchasing activities, vendor management, and strategic sourcing initiatives to support our manufacturing operations. The right candidate will bring established supplier relationships within the Houston market, a full knowledge of steel fabrication for quoting purposes and the proven ability to drive cost reduction initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Procurement: Lead the sourcing and procurement of critical supplies, materials, and services, ensuring alignment with company policies, production requirements, and cost-efficiency goals.
  • Supplier and Vendor Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors. Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to achieve optimal cost savings and supply chain reliability.
  • Contract Management: Oversee the creation, negotiation, and management of purchase orders and contracts, ensuring compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
  • Inventory Optimization: Collaborate with the Inventory Supervisor to monitor stock levels and proactively manage inventory replenishment based on production demands and pre-determined minimums.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with the production, planning, and engineering teams to ensure the timely delivery of materials necessary to meet production targets and deadlines.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including potential delays in material delivery, quality issues, and vendor reliability concerns.
  • Global Sourcing: Coordinate domestic and international procurement efforts, ensuring efficient logistics management and compliance with trade regulations.

Key Qualifications
  • Extensive Procurement Experience: A minimum of 10 years proven experience in a senior-level purchasing or procurement role within the manufacturing sector, with extensive knowledge of industrial equipment and steel components.
  • Strong Negotiation Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead negotiations and resolve conflicts with suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure procurement meets engineering and production needs.
  • ERP/MRP Expertise: Advanced knowledge of ERP/MRP inventory management systems with a focus on procurement and inventory control processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills: Proficient in managing complex spreadsheets, performing data analysis, and utilizing Excel for reporting and procurement tracking.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive procurement initiatives.
  • Purchasing Certification: A Purchasing APEX Certification is preferred.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Physical Requirements

This role is a full-time, on-site position with no remote work schedule.

This role may involve lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds, standing, sitting, and using hands for manipulation of materials or equipment. Additionally, you may need to inspect equipment or troubleshoot machinery under varying weather conditions in the factory, with exposure to moderate noise levels.
