Description:

Job Title: Research Project Manager

Grade: 23

Salary: $83,143 - $87,300

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. (RFMH) is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Research Project Manager for an upcoming 1-year project to conduct a national survey of mobile crisis teams in the United States. This is a full-time, 1-year position starting in Spring 2025.

There is growing interest in and support for the role of mobile crisis teams (MCTs) in an integrated, comprehensive, and effective crisis care continuum in the U.S. Many communities now recognize that far too many people in mental health crisis end up in emergency departments or local jails instead of receiving appropriate care. As a result, there has been increased demand for non-police response options for people experiencing a mental health crisis and many communities are considering exactly what resources they need to ensure people in crisis can be reached in the community in a timely manner. However, major gaps in knowledge remain about the composition of MCTs, what MCT access looks like, and whether and how existing MCTs are meeting the needs of the countless communities they serve.

This project will revise and readminister a national survey of mobile crisis teams. First, we will partner with three large and diverse states to administer the MCT survey and obtain a complete census of MCTs. Then, we will field the revised survey to a national sample to obtain updated data on MCT operations across the U.S.

The candidate will have experience or knowledge of crisis response (both mental health and police-based response options) and will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and two Co-Investigators. The candidate will have exceptional organizational and project management skills, strong writing skills and experience writing peer-reviewed manuscripts as well as reports for mainstream audiences. They will be responsible for timely conduct of all project activities following a specified timeline.

This position can be fully remote or hybrid for persons residing in the NYC metro area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Developing relationships with partner states and conducting outreach to mental health and law enforcement agencies in partner states to compile a complete inventory of mobile crisis teams in the state
  • Working with investigators to revise the national survey with input from experts and partner states
  • Programming the survey in REDCap or other survey software
  • Updating and expanding contact lists for mobile crisis teams and relevant partners in order to disseminate survey broadly
  • Cleaning and analyzing all survey data, including analyses that make use of additional data from publicly available datasets (e.g., US Census Bureau, County Health Rankings)
  • Attending weekly team meetings and liaising frequently with the project's investigators
  • Preparing an interim report of project findings for the funding agency
  • Preparing key deliverables, in conjunction and under supervision of the project's investigators, by the end of the 12-month project period
  • Liaising with Institutional Review Board as necessary and preparing required reports
  • Liaising with the funding agency regarding reporting, external review processes, and data and fact checking processes
  • Ensuring that the project adheres closely to the stated timeline

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or pending master's degree with course work in public health, social sciences, epidemiology, public administration, public policy, or related fields.
  • (2) years of relevant work experience
  • (1) year of experience with survey development and programming
  • (1) year of experience with database management through REDCap
  • 2-5 years of experience performing statistical analysis with Stata, SPSS, or R statistical software

Preferred Qualifications:
  • (2) years of experience working and/or conducting research in the fields of criminal justice, mental health, and crisis response
