Salary Range: $37.3800 - $57.4600 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Physical Therapist Assistant III works under the direction of a Physical Therapist and performs assigned procedures and tasks, according to the established Physical Therapy plan of care. This role reviews physician referrals, patients' subjective report, Physical Therapy evaluation and goals, and the medical record, to implement the Physical Therapy treatment plan accordingly. Contacts the Physical Therapist regarding any change in status or proposed treatment plan. Provides education to patient, family and/or caregiver regarding purpose of activity, use of equipment, home exercise and activity. Oversees the clinical work of the Rehabilitation Aide. Manages multiple patients at the same time and provides care in multiple clinical settings and locations. Provides services and required documentation timely, accurately, and in accordance with professional and regulatory standards. Participates in outside continuing education and incorporates information into practice.

Additionally, the Physical Therapist Assistant III assists with educating and orienting new staff, acts as clinical instructor for students and interns, and participates as instructor in an established class or program. Participates in educational events within the clinic and community annually. Seeks out advanced clinical information and attends clinical education coursework which meet the guidelines of the Physical Therapy Board of California and provides in-services to staff. Performs clinical consultations with staff. Provides input on equipment and supplies. Participates in planning and executes on marketing plans. Assists with developing and implementing a program, policies, and dashboard measures for Rehabilitation Services. In Acute Rehab, may be responsible for agreed upon lead scheduling duties. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Three years' experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant in an acute healthcare system environment required.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office and healthcare database systems preferred.
  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.


Additionally, specific department qualifications are as follows:

Rehabilitation Services:
  • One year experience in defined area of specialization. Twelve hours annually of continuing education in the area of clinical specialization.
  • Experience with a range of diagnoses including general medicine, orthopedics, neurology, and cardiopulmonary.
  • Completes mandatory stroke education requirements per certification agency.


License Required
  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of California.


Certifications Required
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Completion of advanced certification in field of specialization.
