About the Team:
The Risk & Response Team for TikTok USDS is a multi-disciplinary team that handles risk detection, prevention and handling in the United States. The team is dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure online environment for users by actively monitoring and responding to emergent threats, ensuring compliance with legal regulations, and address real-life implications of online content.

As a member of the US Risk and Response's Child Safety team, you will be integral in ensuring that TikTok is a safe and trustworthy place for our community. Risk and Response is responsible for balancing corporate compliance responsibilities with the appropriate operational safeguards to protect our users' rights. Within and across each vertical, we work together to develop efficient workflows that mitigate legal risk. We are here to strike a scalable balance between what the law requires and what is operationally feasible to protect our users. As a Child Safety Specialist at TikTok, you'll be part of a global team that ensures the timely detection and removal of content across the broad spectrum of online child endangerment, such as child sexual abuse and exploitation. Through close partnerships with Legal, Policy, and Product & Process teams, you will manage global time-sensitive escalations, and child endangerment incidents to protect our online community.

This highly motivating and impactful work gives you the opportunity to work with global cross-functional colleagues to frame our legal policies and operational procedures for TikTok. The team is seeking a candidate with a strong work ethic, excellent judgment, exceptional partnering skills and a passion for protecting children.

Our Child Safety team performs a critical function that supports our efforts to address objectionable or disturbing content. Content that the Child Safety team interacts with includes images, video, and text related to every-day life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying; hate speech; child abuse; sexual assault; torture; bestiality; self-harm; suicide; and murder.

It is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content on a daily basis.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

This position will be full-time and will be based in our Los Angeles, CA, San Jose, CA, New York, NY, or Washington D.C. locations and will entail a Tuesday through Saturday, or Sunday through Thursday work week.
It also requires participation in a 24/7 on-call schedule, which will include holiday support. This role will include a regular rotation of 1 weekend day as part of the work week.

Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate operational excellence on a team that evaluates legal risk and user privacy in the world centered around child safety
- Assume responsibility of an inbound review queue made up of internal escalations related to the most vulnerable users in our community
- Be aware of and willing to operate in a work environment with sensitive content that includes child sexual abuse, exploitation and other material that may be considered offensive or disturbing
- Execute on repetitive core work tasks while maintaining attention to detail and keeping an eye out for potential process improvements
- Conduct review of both live/historical user generated content with a detail-oriented approach and in accordance with team guidance for reporting to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC)

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
- Experience in content moderation
- Relevant Trust and Safety Team experience- especially global markets
- Knowledge of child safety policies and/or legislation (e.g., civil and criminal subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, NCMEC Reports)
- Address sensitive content issues, including but not limited to graphic images, videos and writings, offensive or derogatory language, child safety, and other potentially objectionable material
- Ability to work successfully in cross-functional teams

Job Information

[For Pay Transparency]Compensation Description (Annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $68640 - $142222 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
